Didn’t he have about a dozen Spits of various marks under restoration there?
Lancaster, Lincoln, Liberator, not to mention the half a dozen Tempests.
A magic place, in the early days of FlyPast every month almost had new developments happening there before they moved to Bittleswell.

That half chin cowl came from a museum near Twente. Don’t know if it
was recovered in that area or that it was a replacement for one of the Dutch Spits that were based there after the war. We did get some bits of H-33 that crashed into the Twente control tower, including frame 11 but that has dissapeared from our storage area. Figures:cool:

    Any ideas?

One some pics in various books I noticed stenciling below the canopy sill on the starboard side. Not very clear but the top line read DTD and below that some numbers. Does dis state the pain specification? I hope to be able to find the correct text. Are any stencils available or easy to make to reproduce this on the cockpit?
yes, the devil is in the details:diablo:

Update, the Hampden will be a slice of the cockpit just to be able to mount the instrument panel and the windscreen. This will give a good representation of the character of the Hampden.

Nicest colour scheme? Blue? The original one was olive drab wasn’t it? Did’t they use well known blue photographs published in many cheap aviation books as reference?

I read that the French who tested the Dornier Pfeil postwar in France discovered that the head cushion was stuffed with human hair.

The seat cushion in my Halifax seat is stuffed with horse hair, the cushion is dated 1944 and British, the drawings for the Halifax cushions state that they need to be stuffed with horse hair.

Beermat, Mike and others of the Whirlwind Project group,

Thanks for your forthright input. It is very much appreciated. It takes a lot of time and effort to just start somewhere with a project let alone a project as complex such as this.

Thas Augusta-Westland is cooperating as well as several private collections is a good indicator regarding the trust these organisations have in you. Of course you want to spend more time researching rather that keeping the website updated.

    Keep it up:)

    Cees
