What propellers will be used? Cut down available ones or do these have to be reconstructed as well in a similar fashion as Historic Flying had to do that on the Mk I Spitfire set up?
And the undercart?
Cheers
Cees
Before talking about an airworthy airframe, how about recreating a second static Typhoon instead. It’s about time.
Cees
Elliott,
Why didn’t you then?
Good to see some progress on the Whitley, what’s the current state of things? Have the newly found drawings solved any problems regarding dimensions? Do you have sufficient information to reconstrust say a whole fuselage?
Cees
Ken,
is it the smaller (fighter type) or the larger (bomber type) version?
Cees
Does the recent discussion about the Whirlwind mean that there is a serious attempt in recreating a static example?
Perhaps a seperate thread could be started to collect all sort of information or just get on with this one.
Very exciting though
Cees
Ross,
Sounds clear but our favorite magazine reported on
this many years ago before the trolling started.
Cees
Excellent initiative,
Both of them

Any pics of the many Sea Furies at Lasham

Good news, but salt water?
Recover a template to build a new airframe?, the F3F they had didn’t that come from the same general area? What’s the original content of that one (not that I care as a reconstructed airframe is better than no airframe at all)
Cees
How many of those South Cerney firewalls were in circulation then?
Quite a few were recovered as well as cockpit fittings IIRC
Cees
The unavailability of those exact fuel gauges was the reason why I stopped my Hampden instrument panel and sold the lot.
But it seems they are still out there.
Oh well,
Cees
Perhaps I should form my own squadron then:D
Cees
Correct me if I’m wrong but she was thoroughly picked over while
still in the desert. The Libiyans did the only sensible thing to recover her before even more damage was done..
Cees
Chaps,
So not to be mistaken. Vince was a very nice chap to talk to and the several telephone calls were very pleasant (and lengthy). At one point I even got his neighbour on the phone as he had emigrated from Holland during the fifties and wanted to test his Dutch (same as during my visit to Trenton, remember Deryck ).
The problem was indeed the costs of shipping and the Canadian Heritage law that the cockpit should at first be offered to interested parties in Canada and if they didn’t want it they I could get it:confused:
Very strange way to do things, but I believe that good contacts between musea could help which I am not of course.
Pity to leave so many Boly’s rotting away. Several would be nice to be put on display in Europe
Cees
The Deelen Airfield museum recently got one.
Funny, my department I work for got the request to insure it’s transportation to the Harskamp a few weeks ago.
There’s also one at Overloon IIRC.
