Peter,
Seconded, I had one point of critisism, As soon as I started reading it I couldn’t put it down.

Update,
She now has five windows fitted.;)
Cees
So am I, but you guessed that already.:p:D

Jester,
Don’t think that’s fair to YAM. Their efforts were to recreate an externally accurate Halifax with the means they had. They have totally succeeded in that goal. My aim is to make the most accurate Halifax cockpit possible keeping as close to the manufacturers drawings as possible. Just a matter of different perspectives.
Cheers

Same here,
If someone would go to the Bomber Command hall, you would expect to see bombers, not silverpainted trainers.
Cees
Martin,
I have seen the bowden cables in the pilot’s notes photographs but the exact shape of the knob should be easy to recreate I think. Any good pics of one?
Cees
Beautiful pics, of the Wellington especially. Looks like a beached whale.
What work will she need over the years, any info on that?
Pity the Hendon doesn’t have her on show for a while. Wouldn’t it be great if a conservation hangar was built at the Hendon site so that visitors could see the conservation work progress instead being carried out behind closed (at least mostly) doors
Cheers
Cees
John,
I don’t want it back:cool:.
Cees
Auster,
I noticed that too. Mine came in unused condition out of the deteriorated box so I assumed it was to be added later at MU or squadron level? Any info about said knob? Perhaps missing ones for the Stirling (and the other bomber) could be found. I hate empty holes don’t you?;)
Got my pics of the autopilot by the way?
Cheers
Cees
Here’s the other one fitted in the Halifax cockpit.
Cees
Anne,
That’s the only one I had surplus:p
IIRC these units were in use by either RAF and USAAF hence the two labels (one being Air Ministry). I had both versions and of course you know which one went into the Halifax:D
Interesting subject to bring on.

The first Spiteful prototype was a Mk XIV spitfire high back fuselage with the new wings. The Mk 22/24 Spitfire and Mk 47 Seafire used Spiteful tails. It would be great if someone would consider reconstructing a Spiteful. Oh well.

Some pics taken this morning.
The side console with the levers for the undercarriage, flaps and bombdoors is now finished. All levers move within the limits as designated on the drawing. The collapsible seat for the flight engineer is also fully funcional and awaits an original seatbelt (dated 1942) as well as the cushions which still need to be made.
Bruce, about those breeze plugs, what do you need for information. The number of pins or the diameter of the sockets?
Cees
David,
The Hampden didn’t have turrets but manually operated Vickers guns (poor souls).

Martin,
We met at the 2003 Shoreham Aerojumble, I got the flight engineers seat topframe from you and some Rotax bits.
Amazing to read that someone had complete wirings looms for Lanc, Stirling and Halifax. IIRC several years ago Glen Newman had a collection of Halifax bits including complete insturment panels etc. as well as junction boxes but they were relatively corroded and were put on ebay. He had quite a lot of interesting Halifax bit but I couldn’t afford the prices.
Cheers
