Unfortunately it’s in the same realm as resurrecting the Sea Fury and updating it as a modern light CAS platform.

It would be fantastic, but it’s wholly unrealistic.

but also for evading possible interceptors

In the UK home waters and wider North Atlantic there are no interceptors lurking to take out our UAVs.

    Looks like a 146?

I thought it might be, but it looked a bit too long for that? Maybe BAE are of a mind to re-start 146 production with a stretched version? 🙂 We can hope.

In any case, I see a lot of contention here between the pro-UAV crowd and the pro-manned MPA crowd. I think the USN has the best solution – both, used for different jobs.

For the the surface surveillance role there is no point in putting extra hours on your expensive MPA. Most of the time this is essentially be a civilian job anyway, so a UAV like the MQ-4 is a cheap eye in the sky that can do this.

Similarly, for when we need an MPA to do an ASW sweep of an area, we only need one of half a dozen or so P-8s (or something similar) to do this. At the moment the UK doesn’t face a submarine threat to our home waters, or even in the North Atlantic at all. Should that threat develop we can order more MPAs and supplement a small MPA fleet with RN helos.

I tried to find where that German installation was on google earth but had no luck.

It would be great to visit it, is it in a national park now or on private land?

“the new series would focus on the aerial battles in the Pacific,”

Be interesting if it happens. Should raise the question CGI or not to CGI ?

I think CGI is the only realistic option – I doubt there would be enough warbirds flying that could be used for filming.

CGI in of itself isn’t the problem, but the fact that it essentially takes away all limits of realism can be very problematic, and leads to unrealistic, lazy film making.

    The deal has been cancelled.

Probably for the best, but it doesn’t preclude greater co-operation in the future, which I think we should all welcome.

They aren’t hobbits – they’re Dwarves. In The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit the two things are actually quite different.

I assume this isn’t a fake, I must say it doesn’t look like it.

The incidence of insurance fraud is very high in Russia, so many drivers have cameras installed on their dashboard to protect themselves.
