Assuming no orders are forthcoming, when will the 767 line close?
Will Boeing be able to keep the line open until the tanker decision is resolved?
What it boils down to is ignorance and fear, a powerful combination, although its possible the airline could have handled it better.
A quote from a passenger:
“The pilot came out to speak to us and told us it was perfectly safe.
“When someone asked if the hold door could open when we were in the air at 20,000ft, he couldn’t understand and walked away.”
Now, whilst this question may be a little ridiculous, the fear behind it is genuine, and the pilot should do his/her best to address it.
One question, when is the Rafale production line due to close (assuming there are no sales). How much time is there for Dassault to secure some more orders?

Secondly, I was very angry at the housemate Marcus as he cut of the leg of a pig to take it into the garden as a “joke” as it was offensive to religious followers of Islam and Hiduism as they see porcine creatures as important animals in their culture and I found what happened offensive to their religion.
Were you offended yourself or are you taking it upon yourself to be offended on someone else’s behalf? I never could understand why people sometimes do that.
Can you elaborate on the pig in question? I’m assuming it wasn’t a live animal? If its a cooked Hog, then what is the problem with cutting a leg off?
More importantly……..
Bacon, smoked, crispy, vast amounts of………sauces are either HP or Ketchup, depending on mood. Thick white bread (buttered)………. perfect bacon sandwich. 😀
Note to mods: Shouldn’t we rename this ‘The Bacon Lovers Thread?’ 😉

I’m not sure about the 777 seems far to big for KC-X. I think Boeing are trying to cover every avenue to make sure they can protest if the contract goes to Northrop Grumman by saying we have offered a range of suitable aircraft. Does anyone have a picture of size comparison between the KC135, 767, A330, and 777? I’m sure i have seen it somewhere (maybe minus the 777)?
Why don’t Boeing offer the 787 surely this is the perfect size to compete with the A330. Maybe it’s because of all the foreign content in that makes the argument of Made in America not hold any water. I thought the 777 had a lot of foreign content as well though?
The 787 hasn’t even flown yet; and both the 767 and 330 have already been adapted for tanker roles (although I think the 767 variant proposed for the KC-X is different to that used in Italy and Japan).
To adapt the 787 would take far too long; whereas if the USAF, for arguments sake, decided to go for the A330 MMRT today, they could begin production very quickly, constructing the first few in the EU until the plant in the US is ready.
What about Peru? If no other buyer can be found then surely its best to get what they can from the Peruvian govt and just let them have the aircraft.

Put a lot of weight on container and pax capability, poaching in KC-Y territory.
Thats partly why I found the Boeing 777 proposal confusing, as this certainly would be encroaching on KC-Y capabilities.
It’s also equal in size or bigger than the A330, negating one of the best arguments for the 767 over the airbus.
One thing I keep wondering; if the 767 was so much better suited to the requirement, on what grounds did the USAF select the A330?
Surely they would be best placed to decide what would be best?
I think this is bull. Russia will not do something that would rile China nor would India.
Russia might not, as they already sell the Chinese substantial amounts of equipment; but India?
As I understood it they have rather frosty relations with China, I don’t see why India helping Taiwan would be such an issue.
Airforce had by 01.01.2009 exactly 622 Mi-8’s in all variants(T, TV, MT, MTV, MB, MN, MD). The plans for 2010 is to have around 15-20% less as most units have more machined than they need. Some will go for repairs and small part will be scrapped.
Can you reference a source for that, Pesho? 🙂
Its not always right, but Wiki put it at
Naval aviation : 35
Airforce: 195
There is that but as it stands there is a constant flow of data anyway, and if we look at UAVs the link is permanent. Its perfectly possible to make it secure. A high endurance UAV might be ideal to accompany a fleet.
Transmitting all the data all the time might be a bandwidth issue though. The skies are getting increasingly clogged with signals. High bandwidth AEW info might be too much to transmit fully. Anyone clued up on this
A european solution (to pick up on a related thread) might be to have a fleet accompanied by an airship. COuld be treated as another ship, perhaps with a tether on an AOR vessel, but would spend most of the time high above the fleet. AEW is always vulnerable, so I would suggest thats not much of an issue.
It might be useful from one point of view, that is elevating the radar above the fleet, giving it better range.
But other than this it would be very vulnerable and not as flexible as, say an E-2C. It wouldn’t be able to fly ahead of the fleet, or to new areas of interest, it wouldn’t be able to support land forces and it would be a huge chore to depoloy/recover and store.
