When its back is to the wall, even an ant fights back.
Yes, and ants generally get crushed.
I would be surprised if you seriously expect Iran to attack the USN. Short of a nuclear strike, only a massive, sophisticated conventional attack by aircraft and/or naval units would stand a chance of damaging as US carrier battle group, with its naval air wing, missile and anti aircraft defences and submarine screen.
The very notion that the Iranian military is capable of inflicting any significant harm on a US/Allied fleet in the Persian Gulf is, imho, ridiculous.
If this is the case, is it possible that tamil air power can negate the Sri Lankan AF from flying? If so, it would represent a massive change in the power balance.
The Gryppen has been involved in many PR coups here in Romania including taking a ride with famous tv journalist. However, the Minister of Defence, has recently expressed his opinion in favor of the Eurofighter. He told the Prime Minister and the Press that the TYphoon is the only fighter that can defeat modern Russian fighters such as the su35. He gave a 60 % chance of success against the Su35 which seemed pretty low to me but he also added that the Gryppen stands no chance against modern russian fighters. The f16 seems out of the race for now as well as the rafale so it will probably be a Grypen or Typhoon
It is impossible to discount politics in a procurement of this nature. As a new NATO member eager to get closer ties with other EU nations, then I would expect Romania to favour the Gripen less, and politically prefer the Typhoon/F16.
I guess there is some genuine motivation to be able to stand up to Russia as well, so who knows, maybe the RoAF will push the boat out and go Typhoon?
If they did, that would make them the 3rd export customer, and 7th nation to buy the aircraft, giving a boost to its success.
What advantages will this offer really give to Romania though? Assembly in country is a nice bonus, but hardly a massive bargaining chip when on 48 aircraft are concerned.
Grippen is easier to maintain, cheaper and still perfectly capable in all the roles that Romania might need it for. Typhoon (although I love it) would be a little extravagant.
If the Syrians and the Iranians had just found that their air defences could be circumvented I doubt very much if they would go shouting about it for all to hear. Behind closed doors I can imagine some heated complaints to Putin, but nothing official.
Given the tiny ammount of extra flexibility it brings, I don’t think it represents value for money.
97 active users viewing the thread eh? Even my Uber connection is dragging!
Now, where can I find a tv…..
Adding pgm capability is far from the only upgrade that the Hog is recieving, and as the USAF seemingly can’t get enough A-10s, then I think it is a good investment, and proves the point that a dedicated CAS platofrm will be required in future.
Bring us back some good shots!!! 😀
Thanks for keeping us updated!! 😉
You can tell its a fake:
The C-17 has ‘US Air Force’ written on the side, whereas it should say ‘US Navy’, obviously. 😉
Spice Girls, John Travolta and a 757, what more do you need?:D
How about an SA-2 battery?
What is the consensus on the switch from an airborne deterrent to using SLBMs?
It is the more effective option, or does using a bomber force give more flexibility?
Looking at the MARS design, second picture down, what are the verticle towers, roughly in the middle of the ship?
The remind me of a design for retractable sails, used to increase fuel efficiency, is that what they are?
Its catch 22 for the vet
Repair the animal in question and you risk forcing charges on someone unable or unwilling to pay
Put the animal to sleep and you risk upsetting someone unnecessarily.
Still, I hope aforementioned cat will recover soon. If his jaw is wired up, how will you be feeding him?
My uncle had a cat that lost a back leg. Whilst the cat wasn’t nearly as active afterwards, he still managed to get around the house without any problems, and lived to a good age.
