Good to see part of it saved & look forward to seeing this project progress – I recall being seriously shouted at for looking at her through a gap in the hangar doors whilst visiting Hooton park several years ago – we were not trying to gain access – just looking through a 4″ gap, but even that wasn’t permitted apparently.

Who is breaking her up? would be interested in an engine cowling set as I believe they are the same as would have been on G-ARDG, which I now own -I would really love a static Cheetah for her as well, but suspect that’s way out of my budget at the moment.

Ah yes.. the Time Team B-17. I remember their disappointment at being told that a crumpled chunk of metal was in fact the strongest part of the airframe.

Probably why they asked us to find them a “whole” aircraft to dig up 😉

As you say – you certainly did all you could to advertise the sale, but I feel the pick-up location was against you in this case 🙁 It was a shame it had to go before the auction “proper” was organised, as once people were at the site with their transport at the ready, they seemed much more inclined to bid!

Love this guy’s descriptions – No seriously! – wouldn’t eBay be boring without this sort of contribution?! 😉

TRENCH ART HURRICANE ZEPPLIN ALUMINUM AEROPLANE LOVE AIR SPITFIRE COLD WAR

On a more serious note – why are such high prices being paid for obviously fake modern “Trench Art” planes? Not saying this one is and some of his other’s look to have a bit of age to them too – but so many on eBay at the moment are so obviously poor quality reproductions, I just cannot understand why anyone would bid.

Here’s a photo – I have the frame of the co-pilot’s seat and know the location of the U/C if anyone’s interested (PM me) – She was pretty well stripped out. Shame she didn’t make it to the proper auction – the way bidding was going she would almost have certainly sold and perhaps would still be with us now.

Have I missed something here: did Heninger bale out and is missing or is he still in the cockpit?

    Anon.

Excellent dig Gareth – look forward to seeing more.

Guess we will have to wait for the program – these producers do like to put embargos on the details being released prior to air – Are these the same bearers as the MkXIV? I did have the shattered remains of a couple from RN210 at Millom, but sadly they were not to be found when we collected our artefacts 🙁

gazzagee – I’m not after silencing you – you were not to know. There is plenty more in your video to discuss, I’m just asking members to leave this particular one be for now. Do you have more material than the original MHAS DVD of a few years ago and did you attend any of the excavtions?

It was certainly a controversial dig! However the facts seem to have become clouded so could I suggest that repeating hearsay is not advisable here (or perhaps admitting to possession of section 5 weapons). Discussions with the appropriate authorities have been ongoing for some time and hopefully official action will be taken soon. So could I respectfully ask that contributors avoid the subject of the fate of this pilot, as this really is not appropriate at the present time – Hopefully more can be revealed in due course.

Recall it was south of the Ribble, around Bretherton – IIRC – in a front garden, rather than on a farm – though the garden could have belonged to the farmhouse. I worked on the mobile library and it was amazing what you can see along country lanes from such a high vantage point! It was not in good condition then and I recall being told the tyres had been filled with concrete to keep them “inflated”!
