C’mon guys you are freaky now. Get back on your feet or roll away sniff another… . It has nothing to do with being US or Fr, it has to be LEAN and EFFICIENT. In other words, reaching you commitments and provide a system that match you verbal defiance. Some of guys here think that by yelling harder and louder they are more competent, knowledgeable and even more Fr (yes, what it has to do on a UK based forum!?) than the others. You are simply boring us all. EoA.

And by the way, I did my share. A good one.

Why are you so afraid of coming out of the closet? Don’t be shy! Just admit it. It may seem intimidating right now however after you have come out of the closet and admitted your nationality you will feel liberated! Free!

    Just Do It.

PM me if you still feel nervous about talking about your nationality. I have been there, I know how hard it can be and I am sure I can support and offer counsel. It may seem difficult now but in reality it is not that hard.

Did I say the contrary? No. And the source was linked for everyone to read.

I did not say you said the contrary, I merely pointed out that you did not quote the parts that I quoted (which surely was purely by coincidence, I am sure).

Very light. It’s happy hour here. In any case, T-VIP isn’t American (I don’t think) so the whole America-stronk thing doesn’t make sense.

I am not so sure — I suspect he is French-Canadian. He speaks French, and I strongly doubt he is from France.

Last time I checked Canada was part of America.

They´ll team with anyone in Europe who doesnt buy American or Russian. The Germans in a pinch (read Putin goes semi berserk in Ukraine or something like that) might go for the F-35A for part of their fleet, but they wont kill their own industry and they´ll go European for the lions share of the Luftwaffe, thats policy, its written and no one wich has a shot at being government in Berlin wants to change. So, that means in the next decade we are going to see “ZeGermans” teaming up with France and/or GB and a few others.
There´s one thing that has not been mentioned, if the German MOD gets its “2% of the GDP” till 2024 has promised… well, they dont need to team with anyone, their defense budget almost doubles, outstriping (by a fair margin) everyone in Europe (yes, everyone).

I disagree on the last point — even if they go to 2% by 2024 they will still need a partner. Defence is horribly expensive these days, and they need to spend money on the navy and land forces in addition to the air force. On top of that, developing a 5. gen fighter is horribly expensive.

    They will need partners.

I think they will retain the T1s for quite some time, however sooner or later they will have to replace. The question is: when do the T1s become too expensive to maintain?

How big is the difference between the T1s and the current Typhoon? Can they run into problems with spares etc? Or is this not an issue? For how long wil the others retain their T1?

Also, you cannot really compare operating costs with lease costs…. Have you ever looked at leasing a car as compared to owning one?

    Indeed interesting.

Another European country that may also start to look at developing a new fighter is of course Germany — unless they change their minds and go for the F-35. However I doubt it, the urge to keep the industry going is probably going to be too strong. I wonder who they will team up with? Sweden and France perhaps?

    I like this part.

I wonder who is that Bogdan* to say this. Seems to be unknown on this forum…

Ok, let’s capitalize it a bit (I think I earned a free drama voucher the other day)

“You might be able to afford more Super Hornets, but they’re going to die in the high-end fight, and I don’t know how economical that is.”
    *

    Link posted above

Why the yelling? and why not also quote this part:

But that’s not to say that there’s not a right mix out there. Because we’re not only going to fight the high-end fight, we’re going to fight mid-fights and low-end fights too.”

    and this:

They need fifth-generation airplanes and they need some fourth-generation airplanes, and they need them soon. So what I think you’re going to see the Navy do is buy as many F-35Cs as they can afford, and maybe supplement that with as many other things as they can afford. But they just need airplanes,” he said.

So even Bogdan realize that the USN will acquire both F-35C and the SH, the question is how the mix is going to be.

Because the F-35A was not offered by LM?

sigh… and why did LM not offer the F-35A?

He could even imagine the decommissioning of the 15 Eurofighters, if a more cost-effective solution for the airspace monitoring could be found. With this announcement, Defense Minister Hanspeter Doskozil (SP) has recently been struck by the National Council, where the second Eurofighter committee is being formed.

From today on, a separate “Special Commission” will examine whether there are “economic and military alternatives to the Eurofighter system”. Under the leadership of the commander of the air forces, Karl Gruber, 27 experts also make comparisons with foreign systems. Until 27 June, a final report and thus facts will be created, Michael Bauer, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense and even a member of the SoKo, announced in conversation with the OOne news.

Already, in view of the enormous operating costs (see box) and the clear task of being “almost compelling to find alternatives”, Bauers forecast. In the course of the 2002 type selection, the Swedish Saab Gripen was in any case classified as much cheaper for purchase and operation.

Delivered between 2007 and 2009, the 15 Eurofighters have so far caused the Bundesheer some 500 million euros in operating and maintenance costs. Currently, 80 million euros are spent annually. For a remaining lifetime of 20 years, a further 1.6 billion euros should be incurred (not secured by value). The purchase price in 2007 was 1.67 billion euros.

The fact that the Austrian jets are used Eurofighter of Tranche 1, according to BH spokesman Michael Bauer, is partly costly. Spare parts, that is, a motor, gearbox, hardware, can be taken over from the production of the modern tranche 2, but they have to be partly reprocessed. Wear parts (seals, bolts, screws …) one can use one-to-one.

Among the costs listed in the purchase contract “not in clarity” are those for “engine modifications” in the army. These have been necessary with every Eurofighter since 2016 and until 2018, and costs € 11.7 million annually.

The service contract with Airbus (47.2 million euros) deviated by far the largest share of the operating costs (2016 in total 71 million euros). In addition to engine renewals, these included spare parts (€ 5 million), fuel (€ 4.6 million) and other items (€ 2.5 million).

I wonder how much Hungary and the Czech Republic are paying to operate their Gripens…

Austria could become a highly likely customer for Gripen E when their Typhoons become too expensive to maintain (IMHO).

Malaysia and US are not allies.. lets just leave it with that.
Malaysia will sooner buy more Flankers(Su-35) than any US fighter.

OK but why is Boeing trying to push SH in Malaysia? Or are the news reports wrong about the SH in M?

Or maybe they want a really operational aircraft?

By the time Malaysia will introduce new a/c, F-35 will be fully operational.

I predict the next big breakthrough will be unnmanned — already today there are driverless cars doing quite well (although they have not been approved for regular use quite yet). I believe the main roadblocks are ROE and a conservative “pilot culture” in the USAF and most other air forces around the world.

If you can have a care driving you from home to work through heavy traffic and probably with less probability of having an accident then when you do the driving yourself I don’t see why one cannot have UCAVs performing all kinds of missions, autonomously. Whereas a lot of effort is made today to keep the pilot safe and able to return home safely, such restrictions need not apply to UCAVs, opening up for new and innovative solutions.
