Flogger…if you look very very attentive to the Khazakh MiG-29 photo you`ll notice something very very peculiar. Look bellow the horizontal stabilisor. You`ll notice a counter-direction (sorry for my English). I thought that aerodinamic arrangement was used only on the prototypes. Are those Khazakh Mig-29s still flying?
The Mi-17 production lines are not closed. Kazan and Ulan-Ade are still making Mi-17s in full throtle. The Czechs are getting new Mi-17s….14 if I`m not mistaken. Also for Romania 3 should arrive later this year or early next.
The Mi-17 can be considered a threat to the Mi-38.
The Koreans also bought Mi-17s.
The Mi-38 will have two types of engines. The VK-2500 for Russian market and the P&W for the western market.
TinWing..you make it sound the Mi-38 will cost quite a fortune. Of course it`ll be a little expensive, but I think it`ll be cheaper the NH-90 and EH-101. So, you pay a little more for lifting capabilities higher than the Mi-17 for lower flying costs. And the Mi-17 is a proven helicopter…flying for 25 years now. If the political bullcrap prejudice wouldn`t be as it is, I think the Mi-38 will be a winner.
Ink, over 80 countries use the Mi-17. This helicopter is living its second youth with the latest upgrades. We`ll still see the Mi-17 in the skies for quite a while…at least 25 years.
What is the state of the ex-Romanian airframes? I always thought it would have been a good idea for Serbia to have bought some of those. At least good for a spares source, if not to bolster the existing fleet when it was operational. Has Romania scrapped them, stripped them or are they still relatively intact?
They are intact, allright. In fact, last I`ve heard they were for sale. They need overhauling to make them flightworthy again. They are rotting on Mihail Kogalniceanu airbase…..seen them last month.
Is it me…or under the wing is what I think it is (unguided rockets pod) ? I would really like to see them fire the rockets.
That`s not a training accident. It happened in Sweden last summer. This flight was a birthday gift for a 100 year old man.
The helicopter was overweight. The pilot tried to do a running start, but a street light stood in his way.
The 100 year old man died in the hospital a few days later.
The helicopter wasn`t certified for passenger flights. It was registered as an experimental…or something similar.
SERBMIG…it`s really hard to read your posts. Could you use some punctuation marks?…you know…like..commas…exclamation marks…question marks….it would make the reading a lot easier.
With the right amount of money…yes it is possible to navalise the Typhoon.
The SU-30MK does the extended Cobra falling…while the OVT does it horisontaly. I find it more impresive done horisontaly than falling.
I’m surprised they continued the display and retracted the undercarriage after this ‘dig in’, maybe a set of lightweight snow skids should be fitted at all times?
These undercarriages are built to last! They`re not toothpickers, lol.
The Merlin can fly very well with only two engines.
Comparing an airliner with a helicopter..isn`t that of a bright idea…I mean…a MiG-21 reaches Mach2 with only one engine 😛 Does that mean Merlin is able to reach Mach6 ? 😀 Not even Airwolf reached Mach6 and it had 2 engines…and 2 boosters.
now those ARE smokey engines 😀
….and a sparkling nose too…
I’ve seen a video showing a Rafale catapulted from CDG and immediatly doing a looping and goes as close to the sea that reactors letted a trace over the sea…
There is a video showing a Thunderbirds F16 doing the same from an airfield and crashed.
Nothing impressive in this Typhoon looping at plein power and from a security haltitude.
From what I know…the Thunderbirds F-16 incident was because the pilot set his altimeter wrong. The figure he had to do was a Split S. It wasn`t because F-16 isn`t able to do the figure.
If an object is oncoming and to our view it swirves left it is actually going right. Therefore when the bird swirves left on our screen it is actually going into the starboard engine air intake.
BARNOWL
If you watch the movie closer you`ll see the bird flying clearly left of the Pitot tube.
Port means left looking in the direction of motion.
and if you look, the bird enters the engine to the left of the screen, indicating an air intake on the starboard side of the fuselage
BARNOWL
That`s actually port. I have this video for quite a while and when I downloaded it the info said it was a British Hawk.
