I must admit that I didn’t think that the Sturgeon based S.B.3 (don’t think it was named as such) got to the stage where it recieved a service designation, though AS.1 would have been it if it had.

Was going to see if there was anything suitable in our AP but it’s for an AS1 so I don’t think it’s what you’re after

That must be rarer than rocking horse dung! Do you mean AS.1 as in the S.B.3 type?

Certainly looks like it could be from an Avon, earlier 100 series to my eyes.
The diameter is a better dimension to confirm with.

You need to talk to David Gibbings, posts here as Judwin so you could PM him, I will PM you his email address in a bit.
He looks after the Westland (and some Fairey) archives and he is a very helpful gentleman, however I know that he is busy this spring.

Absolutely incredible pictures, not just because of the aircraft that he caught, but he also captures a whole way of life for these guys in that period, something we can very rarely glimpse or relate to.
He was also obviously talented, and accepted as such on the station I would think, judging by how much he could take pictures of, such as the Stirling.
The crashed Vultee Vengeance in A-35 guise is interesting to see.

Nice updates Blue, some great work being done there.
With talk of running some of the other exhibits, will the Gannet ever run or was its power unit damaged in the long term outdoors storage?
