I surveyed this Shack when it was a complete MR.2 (with nose cannon, long bomb doors, radome, full interior – most of which found its way on to AEW.2 WL795 at Mawgan) being stored in the Jaguar stores hangar at Lossiemouth in ’89.
There was a short BBC documentary made on the Shackleton in the mid ’90s, and I’m sure it showed a digger gouging into the side of the fwd fuselage of this aircraft (by then gutted) and moving it around, so unsure how much of it would have survived.
Not terribly helpful I’m afraid.

Love to see that all put in a book, but would request that AlertKen writes it or is asked for significant contribution to it, it will be the definitive book on the subject then!:)

If there are any buried airframes they will be well & truly wrecked by the weight of soil & corrosion anyway.

Memories of raking through Mawgans dump, hoping to find crated Harley Davidsons, cans of USN paint, and bits of Liberator, all we found was Shackleton firewalls, bent nose framing, and lots of smashed Mess crockery!

The press reports I have seen here described the show that the statement was said on as a light magazine show. I have to wonder, if this show does go out so early, and is a light magazine show, why that show’s presenters are asking another television presenter questions of a political nature that don’t concern him at all? Surely they were putting Jeremy into a position to provoke a controversial remark? Would he have turned up there wanting to talk about the strike? or did they put him on the spot and he said the first thing that came into his head? It’s all ratehr bizzare.

Precisely, if you put someone known for being outspoken in a position with questions like that, you have to acknowledge the result and accept responsibilty. Someone earlier mentions that Jeremy shouldn’t be coming out with these opinions, but if you are on a magazine show being asked these questions, then he is entitled to come out with his views.
Having JC on the One Show at all seems a silly move.

According to a programme broadcast on the BBC Radio 4 this evening Clarkson’s ‘jokes’ were scripted.

I don’t believe that for one minute, for a variety of reasons, but one being how suprised Alex Jones looked at the time and how peeved she looke dfor the rest of the show.

There didn’t seem to be much impetus put into that though, there has to be a lot of effort put in with organisation and advertising to make it worth towing a cockpit somewhere these days, or the knowledge that the event will properly cater for it.
Not an easy task at a guess, and by T/O’s constant plugging!:D
