My Grandad showing me around the BA S-61Ns at Penzance heliport mid ’70s, and remembering that the Sikorsky seemed huge and smelled of AVTUR, which was nice. Seeing it taxy and take-off really impressed on me on what a package on energy these things are.
St Mawgan Nimrods, visitors, and airshows of the period were obviously a big influence, still remember a Neptune (French or dutch) flying low over the house and being able to see the crewman in an orange flight suit sat in the front glazed position – ISTR him waving, probably wasn’t though!

Ahhh, so it was you! I only discovered the sale after it was sold – if you know what I mean!
Willing to help out anyway I can Ian, but those Translite bulb holders are a sod to find in quantity. Strangely I’m just reassembling my main panel at the moment.

Wow, I think a Halifax and Lancaster ride is going to be hard to beat anyway, let alone as first flights!
If you ever want to look around your dad’s old patch, let me know;)

The subject of standard British service aircraft finishes & schemes, with an exhaustive paint guide and references, complete with lovely period colour RAF/RN/Army a/c pics, must be crying out for a good guide book – Adrian? (thinking along the lines of ‘Testing Colours’)

NO Navy Wessexes were painted Extra Dark Sea Grey James!
Ok, I did say I didn’t mind being corrected.
I’ve got some helicopter models to repaint!
I must have made an assumption that all FAA combat types were painted in EDSG.
Apologies Phil & John!

I would need to double check, and happy to be proved wrong, but normally Extra Dark Sea Grey was the colour used.
RAF B/G tended to be used for VIP and COD aircraft.

Ah no – Its a telescopic oleo.
The Miles Gemini was a trailing link……..so its not Gemini
Good point, well presented!
Be amazed if it is from the 108, which was largely recovered at the time, but you never know…

Certainly has the stocky and basic appearence of a Gemini leg.
F-86 leg looks longer and ‘busier’.
