Yes now that I have got home, I’ve dug out the details and it is as Alan Clark and Consul says. I have a sequence of pics of the evnt, but cant locate them at the mo.
Just as a little note the hook and flaps position dosen’t nescesarily indicate a take off problem as the ‘hook up & flaps up’ signal was given straight after trapping, it was sometimes the case that an aircraft would have a hydraulic or brake problem after that while taxing.
The sequence does end with the just the tail bobbing in the water, I should have remembered, comparitively lucky that it only had the pilot on board.
After the fatal Albion accident in ’54 it was standard practice to take-off with the hoods open.
The one that got caught in the catwalk was taxing to its spotting position when it experienced brake problems and rolled off the stbd side deck!
I love those Kettenkrads, is it used for aircraft towing at all, like the Luftwaffe sometimes did? A bit too valuable now I’m guessing!
Nice one Philip, I’m jealous, please don’t tell me that you have a Schwimmwagen aswel!
In return we got a useless missle system built in the U.S.
Canada still does not have an all weather interceptor for our geography and climate so in the end yes cancelling the project was a huge mistake.
I thought the U.S. provided Voodoos as the CF-101 and replaced these after long service with CF-18s?
Nice buy, I didn’t realise that those style oxy masks wre that old.
I can’t recall ever having seen an official photos of the aircraft although you’d think someone must have taken some?!
They do exist but copywright would preclude posting them here.
There are fine colour air to air shots (some of a few I’ve seen) on page 143 (with three other RAE Hunter T.7s) and 146 of ‘Forever Farnborough’.
I wonder if Adrian Balch has some nice pics of it?
I seem to remember that this is the Hunter that cut itself in half when a compressor disc let go in early 1980s, there is a pic of the result of that non fatal accident somewhere aswel.
I was going to say that people have strated with less, but have they?
Well done for taking it on and hope it goes well for you.
I must get to the bottom of what is going on there – I shall have to schedule another visit – and yes, there are control columns there!
Bruce
It’s not the control columns I’m thinking of in Jons case!
It is a right pickle down there that’s for sure, I think it’s a case of feelings on the day.
Jon, are you aware of the DH spares stock in Bridgend, S.Wales, most of it is accounted for and being recovered but there are other bits kicking about, I saw a pallet load of gundoors there for example, and something rather tasty – but that would be the lazy way to restore your Vamp!
I can’t find it at the mo, but I’m sure there is a previous thread on the fuselage windows and there deletion period.
I was being tongue in cheek with the ‘lazy’ thing, I know that it is far from it.
I was considering the Venom that was on EBay, and the pod sprung to mind with that project, however that would have lost a considerable amount of its identity in so doing.
No worries Tim, I would also go with what Phil says, FAST would be the people to approach, they have good TSR.2 info aswel.
I used to be a member of FASTA years ago, superb group with much history and documents on all flying at Farnborough.
It looks like a single row radial from the pics, but also did Pegasus and Hercules have bob weighted props (are they hidden within the spinner)?
Wouldn’t those counter weights suggest a Mecury three bladed prop powered type, such as a Blenheim or Gladiator.
