It was the forward part I was interested in, wasn’t worried about the minor differences from the leading edge of the fillet aft.
Thanks JDK, apparently the the engines were still running as the crew got out?
I wish I hadn’t mentioned trolley take offs now!
Quick, but I may be wrong, we will await the cavalry!
Looks like a Miles Gemini to me, but as for which one…
Wow, I’m gllad I mentioned trolley take offs now!
That does look pretty precarious though, no brakes is one thing, but what about sudden side gusts, they must have picked the calmest day!
Thanks for sharing.
Considering that the prototype (G-AGUS) made its first flight in late ’45, I wonder if it could be it in the picture?
Do you have a more precise date Lyffe?
It definitely comes under the heading of ‘what could possibly go wrong?’
Tethering rope not being long enough…
Sometimes things just look wrong…
Fascinating that the surviving Stranraer flew as recently as the 1960s aswel, imagine if that had been kept on the show circuit!
I was trying to figure the rear windows out, and the fact that ‘GUS had fixed undercarriage should help, but the pic is too washed out. It did have light lettering against a light background at one stage though.
Prop boss looks wrong for Swordfish, not sure about those weights on one either.
very good, I think the colour was possibly cream with red dashes, John will know better though.
Hmm new large arrivals. Nimrod? VC10? The possibilities…:)
VC-10 has another three or so years of service yet, even though the majors finish at the end of this year.
Nimrods, I’m a bit out of touch with these now but I didn’t think that the new version was cleared in sufficient numbers to replace the MR.2 yet?
Was thinking Hercules C.1 and 4, but understand that they are still required by SF duties.
Nice one Richard, I assume copies can be obtained at cost?
Blimey, talk about reducing effective force, makes you wonder how small the MR fleet will end up?
Oh, well at least you got to see it by appointment.
