JB, I certainly didn’t mean that the action was intentional or anything like that, how ever the one pilot featured was quite proud of what had happened and so where his neighbours. he probably was an idiot, you can get them in any job.
Don’t forget aswel that there are groups in the US that absolutely hate the British, so I guess if the two situations were to ever meet it could be a recipe for this sort of jubilation.
I agree with what you say in your last post (and your signature line rings very true!) and Kev couldn’t have put my feelings better.
My post is certainly not an anti American swipe and indeed the Wiki link that I posted earlier show US forces casualties to A-10 fire aswel.
It is unfortunate that it still happens and I guess the nature of A-10 ops puts them in the forefront of high pressure and possible confused action.
Wouldn’t this thread be more suited in General Discussion, seems to have very little to do with actual aviation?
At the end of the day the name is being changed for commercial pressures and gains, end of.
So, you’re both gay then? :diablo:
You’re thinking of a different word – I hope!
I’m gay…
You’re ****ing me!!
Ah, sooner than I thought, http://www.flickr.com/photos/7691137@N06/3722673825/in/photostream/!
XB259 had G-AOAI allocated to it for the reasons you mentioned during the mid ’50s, and as you say never took it up.
XB260 became G-AOEK for use by the Iraqi Oil Company, however I don’t know how long it wore this or how successful it was in the role. Would love to see a picture in use with the civil reg.
JB you’re making an assumption about me, I’m just pointing out what was featured in a programme.
I have had many good friends in the USN & USMC, inc an intelligence officer, so why the hell would I think Americans are evil?
I do believe anyone is capable of having a bad streak or even a mis-guided moments of ill founded celebration, no matter what nationality they are from.

It was a while ago now, so I wouldn’t like to rely on my memory for the detail, but as I remember it one of the pilots was very full of it and actually boasting about shooting at British personnel and ceratinly not havinh any regret about the incident, he was definitely celebrated by the neighbours.
I seem to recall that the other one felt similar but no where near so up front about it.
There was a fall out about the film in the UK about it, especially for the families concerned.
This makes sobering reading, especially the two Iraqi and the Afghanistan conflicts, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friendly_fire.

I am sure it will haunt them the rest of their days, and I bet that is punishment enough!
You obviously didn’t see the footage where one of them was interviewed years later after he had become a hero in his local town.

Wow the Jug looks fantastic, I was kind of expecting the run of the mill silver or drab olive with stripes!
Reminds of that JP that was around a few years ago.
It’s a funny old PC world. It took 23 posts before anyone had the courage to actually use the word to which all its predecessors had alluded.
Only five posts in to be fair.
Stephen Fry is right that it would give a lot of problems in the states. I’d rather see the film made with “Digger” instead of “nigger”, then not at all.
I can’t help thinking that the thread was started with a bit of mischievesness in mind, as there have been many on the subject and the new film which have come and gone and some have been closed!
Whether we like it or not the film won’t use the name ‘Nigger’, both on world sensitivity and commercial grounds.
Jim you got rid of a Landy for Mini – are you crazy?! (slighty tongue in cheek as I realise the harsh economic realities of operating said beastie in todays climate!)
What sort of Landy was it?
