Jim you got rid of a Landy for Mini – are you crazy?! (slighty tongue in cheek as I realise the harsh economic realities of operating said beastie in todays climate!)
What sort of Landy was it?

Excellent update and progress Jon, there must have been people that viewed the cockpit a while back and gave it up as dead!

Just out of interest what sort of ply do you use?
I’m coming to the stage where I’m going to have to learn and do some woodwork, just wondered if there is any recommendations for longevity, suitability for use etc?

Hmmm, a ride in a powerful 1950/60s carrier based fighter, but in the ‘coal hole’!
Am I envious – only just!:)

That must be one of the worst ever aircrew stations in a post-war aircraft (and there were many bad ones!), when it comes to working on the section that I have it is with trepidation that I sit in the observors position and close the hatch down!

It would be great to hear about P-Ks experiences in flying in XP924.

Got to echo Sky High’s response and say thank you for bringing his fantastic career to our attention and what a sad loss his passing is.

I have always had the utmost respect for ‘Flight’, and their encouragement in advancing understanding of all forms of aviation with their free archives service is a tremendous resource.

That seems like reasonable advice to me Jim, take a small break from it a bit and enjoy the great outdoors for the day!:)

No need to look sad, the question has been answered and an interesting debate on modern jets has come out of it.
The truth is that until the majority of F.3s and GR.9s in the MoD storage and instruction system are finally released it is hard to tell how many more will find their way into preservation.

I have been thinking the same thing for ages, I absolutely agree with what Wyvernfan says, and I think his very valid query has been completely misunderstood here.
Both Pen Pusher and DCW take fantastic pictures and are kind enough to share them with us to enjoy, but do we need multiples of threads on the place?
DCW has kept his all in one thread which is kept updated, but surely one thread from all the contributors (and there are many more besides DCW & PP)regularly updated would be far tidier for the forum, and easier to find the various posts and pictures made about Dux, other museums and organistaions have seen fit to do this.

I hadn’t realised that GA was Modern Military mod aswel, blimey he must have taken on the two heaviest going sections.
There seems to be moderators listed in the boxes in the various sections that either arn’t here any more or don’t show up an awful lot, has there been any rationalisation of the modding side of things recently?

Jim, you don’t have to be a computor whizz to come back to the forum under a different name, or even start out with a couple of different names.

The implication was that Britain’s aerospace industry collapsed because of political manoeuvres (British and American). Point is (as has been explained) it didn’t. It collapsed because it was artificially over-sized in the first place and the industry thought it could survive intact regardless of the country’s needs or resources.

Collapse is only a matter of opinion, see AKs, my, and various other posts.
Our aerospace industry is still bouyant (as any other nation) but in a different way from the days of old, there is this perception that because whole aircraft no longer pour off the line that we are somehow behind in this sector.

Interesting question Baloffski, be nice to think that Newark, Doncaster, Gatwick, and Elvington would all have some interest in a disposal list like that, but the reality is that a lot of modern type arirframes seem to be left outside.
T/O mention of Dominies, what has happened to them?
It seems like the MoD try and ask too much for some airframes, while seem very helpful to museums in others (ie Nimrods).

Fantastic shot Bennyboy! Great angle, light, weather conditions etc to make a very different and moody shot!
As Baz touches on it kinda whisks me back in time aswel to when we would brave the kerosene rinse of standing right under a landing Nimrod!
