The very end of the tail also done. In this shot can be seen the colour difference on the wings between old and new paint.

Really does look like something out of Star Wars there, more than the Victor normally does!

Excellent project progress and updates!

also the Varsity is going to air Atlantique in Devon

That will be Devon in Cornwall then! Believe the Varsity is joining Classic Flight who are in the process of moving to St Mawgan.

Also the ‘Storch’ is a French post-war MS.502 Criquet:p

I must admit, along with the CASA 2.111, I’m kind of sad to see these post war ‘want to be’s’ leave.

The style of wheel shown above is in a 1950 Dunlop advert, it looks to have been a short run item though.

After Viscount c/n 2 different styles of Dunlop and Goodyear wheel equipment was used.

Given that there is an appetite to fly any Spitfire with ‘Supermarine’ in the title, is there a reason why this one hasn’t been made a flyer?

Viscount 630

Bingo! The prototype Viscount, V.630 G-AHRF, did indeed appear to have these wheels fitted. From the third aircraft (V.700) on the undercarriage was modified and the wheels are different.
It also appears that the second aircraft, V.663 Tay Viscount VX217, had these wheels, but on different undercarriage legs of course.

I’m pretty sure from looking at pics of very early Varsity c ’49/50 that the same wheel was used on them, looks like it was favoured by Vickers.

All the other types listed so far have different style wheels.

i did not plan on doing the T5 but if you insist i just might:D the stencil detail for the T5 is different to the 3/4 but saying that the 3/4 varied all over the place.

Your title says T3/5, guessing that is a typo then?:o
Would be very grateful for one of XW325 though:)

On a related subject, does anyone know why some JPs got the blue top, were they COs’ aircraft?

Hi Anon, can you post any part/id numbers on the wheels here? Also do you know where abouts they came from?

The nearest I can find to these is a 1950 Dunlop advert which seems to show the same wheels on a twin wheel bogey.
The only aircraft that I can find with these wheels is very early Varsity (stress, not the same wheels we see in most pics or survivors), but the pictures aren’t of good enough quality to absolutely confirm.

The annoying thing is that I’m sure that I’ve seen clear pics of these fitted to something, they’re quite distinctive.

Pretty sure I saw that keyboard in the Tactical Navigators’ suite, haven’t a clue what it does, but wonder if the key symbols match those on the presentation screen.

I can provide detail pics of a T.5, the only stencils I can see in that area though are for the canopy operation and I think, earthing. I know some people that would be awfully glad of having a profile painted of same said JP5, which is a flyer.

Edit, just noticed a “CAUTION UNIFIED THREADS USED ON THIS AIRCRAFT. REFER TO AIR PUBLICATIONS FOR DETAILS” stencil in the same area on another JP5.

Must admit that I thought Spitfires as gate guards wasn’t vogueish anymore.
Also, isn’t Leuchars still slated to close, inspite of 6 Sqdn Typhoons move there?

I have just come back from a vist to Kermit Weeks ‘Fantasy of Flight’ museum where he also has an Albatros and Snipe from TVAL.

Definitely not Gannet, of any type.
Not Belfast either, which had a more modern wheel design.

My hunch is early British post-war type, but I’ve exhausted all my ideas!
Beginning to wonder if they even be from a prototype, and initially wondered if they were very early Comet bogey type.
