Fantastic, both your conversion and Mk12s’ original!
Great to hear the move has gone well, and that the collection is now more accessible. Shame about the Phantoms not moving across, especially the A&AEE stalwart XT597
Thanks for your answers above Andy.
Just to clarify, does CA302 still actually exist? Can only find pictures of CA310.
Very well said and presented AK, unfortunately the more simplistic version is the far easier one for most to believe in.
Very sad news, thoughts with all concerned.
Also feel very sorry for the Shuttleworth show organisers, not a very good year for them.
I know I posted the pictures here at the time, as you may realise times and people (crucially) change!
Anyway not an entirely serious suggestion.
I was a trifle sad, too, when I saw the limited response your post had.
The problem is that for some of us it is difficult to respond appropriately.
Some like the OP, yourself, Kev, Sq/L Scramble etc do the honours superbly and in the right manner, the likes of myself can only waffle on about machinery, but read these mindful posts silently.
In fact a rather touching development in the main thread is the loss of a DH Dove in the same sand and its crew, including a child.
Rest assured, that Dennis Copping, and every pilot/crew who falls is thought about and remembered by us.
This is a genuine question, as I have little understanding of how the Coventry operations work, but will this move be Classic Flight, Air Base only or plus companies that one hears about in relation to them such as Air Atlantic and CFS?
Wondered if it was a unit thing, but thought all stations were relegated to a single frame policy.
Phantom would be nice back at Saints!
Well it can only be a tornado or hawk. Tornado would make more sence.
Just mulling that over in my mind, with Scampton (Reds) and Leeming (100 sqn) within a 100 miles of Newark (which has a very strong RAF trainer flavour), how does the Tornado make more sense?
Must admit my brain is struggling this morning, so also wondering why a Phantom was appropriate, and why a Hunter will be appropriate to Waddo display, when a Vulcan already performs the duty?
There’s still the wonderful pre expansion era RAF Bicester, but realistically leaving even replica aircraft out on airfields would be hard to keep up.
It was a nice surprise to see Andover C.1 XS606 doing circuits at Cardiff last month, I take it this is the last flying of the type in the UK?
C’mon, a sense or realism is needed here, Cornwall isn’t exactly the back of beyond anymore and the roads are dualled for the vast majority of the way down to Camborne now.
DrS will confirm but I believe the smaller road to St Mawgan has been improved and a new access road put in.
The Pembroke has had a lot of work carried out on it but she’s still a little way from flying yet.
Thanks DGH!
I think the possible tax break that comes with this new development zone is probably the incentive to move to Newquay, my worry is when the council come knocking for their full rates, something they are known for.
I think that’s unfair Skymonster. It has been clear that operating two DC6’s is just to ambitious, so finding a good use for G-SIXC was a good move, meanwhile much work is continuing behind the scene’s on returning G-APSA to the skies. Off the 3 Dakotas, G-AMPY and G-ANAF are on lease to RVL and producing good revenue and G-AMRA is undergoing a wing pull. There is also a team working on the Twin Pioneer who have made good progress with finding the drawings for the cruical part that is required to get the aircraft airbourne again, all that is needed now is that important thing called cash to undertake an overhaul of the aircraft and fabricate the required part.
Hi DGH, would you know the status of their Pembroke?
