Ah yes! Odiham, when we had an Air Force.

So, you’re saying not to be too expectant about the same amount of RAF aircraft being presented this time around?!

Somewhere at home I have the full static and flying participition list from a spotter there at the time, how he managed to write everything down is beyond me, let alone what the organisation for the event must have been like.

Seeing the Shackletons above reminded me that there was also a Coronation flypast of Buckingham Palace, sixteen Shackletons were in one formation.

Almost Tim! The government listening post of GCHQ Morwenstow with its large dishes is right on Cleave.

The similar satellite station of Goonhilly is near the old RAF Predannack, down on the Lizard.

Some of old RAF Cleave is still explorable with concrete defence and gun positions still visible.
Would love to see other pictures you may have.

Other Tim, great images there, I’ve seen the one of the Henley on the beach before, but hadn’t realised that it had such a sad outcome.

I’m sure I’ve seen reference (Flight ?) to the loaned C-119 bringing back some of the wreckage of Comet YP to Farnborough, would that place it in the early 1954 time frame?
Also worth noting that C.E.Brown and other press had a C-82 at their disposal for recording SBAC show arrivals pre 1952.

Nice vid, height seems entirely reasonable for flying over the city.
The Queens reaction to the BBMF fly past was fantastic.

I agree that the BBC camera work for both the fly past and the floatilla wasn’t great, they seemed to be playing catch up with the action and missing things out, which shouldn’t be that difficult with boats and old aeroplanes, perhaps to keen to zoom right in instead of enjoying the overall sight.
Great weekend though.

Does anyone know if there are any air events to commemorate the anniversary of the RAF Coronation review, held at Odiham in July 1953?

Recuperating with grandparents in Bude in August 1940, managed to get airborne in a Henley, towing for the AA guns on Cleeve Camp to the north.

Fascinating Tim, rarely get to hear about RAF Cleave, the various Flights of 1 AACU, and their Henleys that were oprated from there (& briefly Trebelzue/St Mawgan), let alone hear from someone who flew from there.:)

Jeez – look at the state of the place, I mean there’s actually fruit in there!

I seem to remember said child nearly being squashed by the u/c so had to rig it up so not as to rotate over! Amelia’s come a long way!

It is a good question, especially when you consider some are hollow and others have deicing equipment. Some of the American prop blades had air discharge ducts in the tips.
I’m sure I’ve seen reference to some hollow prop blades being made up from two pieces of steel, ie the inner & outer faces, being formed in their cambered profiles before being joined together.

Hunter ‘Miss Demeanour’ ripping the air assunder over my house in the Cilfynydd valley this morning – what a lovely noise!
Assuming it was coming from IoM TT returning to Cardiff.

Pretty sure I doubled checked myself way back in the mists of time, but certainly worth double checking again. I do mean the leg and wheels, guards and door mechs etc probably vary.

Think WL795 has a sleeve/strap/collar now, Dr S will confirm.

Not sure if helpful but the basic Shack 2 tail wheel assembly is the same as Canberra nose wheel unit. Used to have one in my lounge as a speaker stand! It might still be around and it was sound.

Just glad everything doesn’t seem to be as bad as it could have, I take it that is the only regular flying Firefly?

The split tailwheel leg is not an uncommon problem on Shack 2s, glad that you have a new one to fit.
Believe WL795 is on 2nd or 3rd since being on display, and that doesn’t even get towed anywhere.

Good to hear that the damage is being reported as repairable and the pilot is ok.
