“Treasury figures released today expose how public sector retirement funds dwarf their private sector counterparts.
The calculations show that a mid-ranking teacher on £32,000 a year will receive a final salary pension that is the equivalent of having built up a £500,000 pension pot.”
If true, I think some of us are justified in our opinion of the current strike.
That isn’t very different to my projected pension pot to be honest. The difference is in how much they are being asked to contribute towards it, what the benefits are and when they can get at it. Quoting an example like that is misleading. Many will be getting a lot less than that.
Comparison’s of other’s salaries are not very helpful either – everybody has diffferent circumstances, spending patterns, lifestyles, responsibilites etc.

I have no idea if they did that or not. If they did, it would be applicable to all MPs anyway. If it was bad then I’m sure the current administration will rescind the legislation.

On another matter. Interesting to see the unions posters solely blaming greedy bankers for the current financial crisis and no mention of a former government that spent money like Greeks.
That’ll be because it was a world financial crisis. If the last government spent money like Greeks (they didn’t) how come we aren’t in the same financial state as Greece? Could it be because the government (the last one) took measures to prevent it?
The 2008 recession was caused by the credit crunch stemming from toxic debt.
The pension issue is an altogether different affair. Aging population, not enough paying in too many taking out. Something has to give and those of us in private pensions felt the pinch a long time ago.
Having said that, I have every sympathy with those getting their terms and conditions changed for little or no benefit. Been there myself.

2 of the retired R.1’s are listed as being on the static at the airshow IIRC.
Static is fine, but the two flying would have been even better.
Churlish indeed.
Please PM me with your answer so we can finish this discussion off forum and not disturb this thread anymore.
No, I don’t think so – I think I’ll let it go – you clearly have some issues with what I’ve written despite the fact I have been respectful and considerate at every point. I am entitled to an opinion as to what people should be outraged at and this, as events have shown, and as I thought all along, is not one of them.
That link to the Hangar says all that needs to be said and shows the press for what they are – trying to create stories where there are none. The fact that they tried to create a story from this particular issue shows the depths to which they will stoop.

Indeed, in other words bean-counters. Unfortunately enthusiasts have no say whatsoever in what happens. A little thought in this instance would have worked wonders.
Historic event – wish it was a few days later – in public.
The fact that the Nimrod has been retired and grounded only 3 days before the airshow is nothing short of scandalous. It is almost certainly down to an accident of some arbitrarily chosen dates.
It shows the low regard the MOD has for the Nimrod and 40years service.
Unlike some, however, I’ll judge the Waddington air show after I’ve been.
So please dont tell me or anyone else here to treat this matter with respect or dignity. I would be one of the first to tell someone off if they overstepped the mark and no one has yet. Lets get back to discussing the matter because this is what this place is.
And I believe you are the first to have overstepped the mark in your response. Everyone has indeed responded respectfully. Why didn’t you?
I was the first to bring up the fact that the route had changed in post number 3. Please read ALL the posts before responding.
Yes you have the right to get outraged by whatever you want but in this case your outrage has has been revealed by Bob’s post above to be utterly misplaced and thereby loses any dignity that any of the repatriation events should have.
if its right for their family member to be carted off through a side gate or through the public streets.
Is that really treating the matter with dignity?
I am normally never less than polite and respectful in my responses. I hope it can remain that way.

I appreciate what you are saying, but do you not think that if more employees were represented by a decent union then employers would not be able to treat workers as they have done?
