If PC means not offending other folks or not using language that might offend then I’m all for it. Being rude and offensive to others is nothing to be proud of.

For crying out loud, just how many more times to we have bumble down this historical and philosophical cul-de-sac ?

There must have been 617 threads on this stupid non-story, each one more tedious than the one before. There are essentially only two views on the proposition, and both perspectives have been utterly exhausted, thrashed to death, put to bed, exhumed, re-examined, and dragged round the block again.

In all that huffing and puffing, nobody has made a single interesting point, because there is NOTHING interesting left to say.

And your post has added nothing relevant to debate. If you don’t like the discussion, why join in?

I think much of the requirement for “historical accuracy” is a deliberate attempt to say rude words and get away with it in a “looking up rude words in the dictionary” fashion.

Anyway, the matter has been sorted – we’ll have to wait on the film coming out so we can have multiple threads about the Lancasters having too many rivets or the knurled flange-bracket being the wrong colour.

No, as I said, the name of the dog is irrelevant. I wonder what the 53 aircrew that failed to return would think if all we can discuss about a film of their exploits was the name of their CO’s dog.

What I would care about is whether the new film did justice to the brave crews who paid the ultimate price in May 1943, does it explore the complex character of Guy Gibson, does it explore the battle Wallis had with Harris, will it explain why the RAF didn’t return to hamper the repairs to the damns, all sorts of aspects could be explored. Instead the main controversy is about the damned dog’s name. Honestly:rolleyes:

In 1943 Nigger was not considered particularly offensive in the UK. In 2011 it is. So it needs to be changed.

The days of gollywogs and the black and white minstrels have been consigned to history and so should the term “nigger”.

Hi Pete. I don’t know about your last comment, I.M.H.O. he seemed like an unseen and unknown comerade, as one would have during the war, and who had been killed, but the memory lives on.

I really do think you need to step away from the keyboard for a few days.
It’s only an internet forum for goodness sake!

Turn the PC off, go for a walk, potter in the garden, watch an old movie on the telly. There are plenty of things to do rather than surf the net.
Forums are the worst for affecting mood, mainly because you have no power over them. Been there done that, it’s why my posts are infrequent – I refuse to let forums dominate my life as it clearly does others.

Calling people names, ignore lists, leaving in a huff, not playing with those you have issues with. How old are these people? Strikes me as being more than a bit childish.

IMO there a load of rubbish. Just another (expensive) thing to go in the cuboard with the `ab master`, exercise bike and all the other fitness gimmiks.
I have had a go with the Kinect as well, and although it is a lot better at picking up movement, I dont think its worth the extra money.
The truth is a after ten minutes of jummping around like a wolly, you think if I realy wanted to be this active, I would be outside 🙂

If you think it’s just a fitness gimmick then I’m afraid you are mistaken. It is the first games console that took games out of the sad teenager’s bedroom and into a more family orientated product. The Wii is an easy to setup, well packaged, easy to use product aimed at a specific market. The 86million customers would tend to suggest that it is not totally rubbish.

The fact that teenagers don’t seem to like it is a plus in my opinion.;)

In this particular case , to get involved in the discussion then moderate others who may disagree is going to look bad any which way it comes over. He should have asked another mod to take over if it was apparently getting out of control.

    But resigning over it?
