There was a wartime training base called Burnfoot some miles N. of Carlisle, near the border with Scotland (but still in Cumberland). Is this where the confusion lies ? The location of the airfield tagged on the linked map would appear – to my eyes anyway – to be uncomfortably close to the hills and mountains of the Lake District.
edit: I believe Burnfoot is better known as Longtown, the nearest village.
Scanned from print rescued from old shoebox – hence the blemishes – G-AEFT on the flightline at Old Warden, sometime late 90’s/early 00’s ?
a few more scans…
…this time a PFA Rally at Cranfield in 1998, graced by the appearance of the MATS Connie. It’s also the only time I’ve seen a Great Lakes biplane. The Avian was used in a re-enactment flight by Aussie adventurer Lang Kidby.
12 O’Clock High
Purchased the DVD last week – forgotten how good this film was, even though there’s more angst than aviation. At which airfield was the iconic opening sequence filmed, and where did they obtain the B17s ?
Push
Rubbishy film about people with minor psychic abilities trying to obtain an anti-dote for a drug. Set in Hong Kong, it can’t decide whether it wants to be a super-hero, martial arts or conspiracy thriller. Missable.

Not sure of the date, probably late 1960’s to mid-late 1970’s and possible location either Biggin Hill or Greenham Common.
This would be Biggin 75 or 76 – I remember the very low formation pass from crowd rear – wouldn’t get away with it these days
– but they may find the remains of the Ward Room piano which was “fired” from the steam catapult by some aircraft carrier just before it Paid Off.
Didn’t Pete and Dud do much the same thing ?
A typical F.A. own goal – in their anxiety to be seen to be ‘doing the right thing’ they’ve already found John Terry guilty before he’s been tried, thus forcing a showdown with the manager. Perfect example of this nation kicking itself in the g***ds. No wonder Fabio’s walking away, any sensible person would.

On the other hand, it could have been monitoring the turnip crop….
Arthur
I rest my case.

bit of a long shot guys, seeing as how this a/c was over Lincolnshire, but might it have anything to do with the big Olympic security operation ‘rehearsal’ going on today around the Big Smoke ?

I’m thinking of putting together a consortium of interested parties to bid for the rebuilding of Hadrians Wall. As this is an Ancient Monument, will I have to build a replica – based on the original plans but with modern safety features – or a reproduction, which will follow the Roman woadprints down to the last piece of stonework ?
If I can incorporate stretches of the original wall, does that make it the real thing ?:p
