Aaah, now I get it! As long as Libya selects EF, everythink is OK, business as usual, but after they have chosen Rafale they are suddenly ‘a big threat to Italy’. :p 😎

    Cool thinkin, dude!

If Libya select EF, then the italians have direct access and control to the secret code of the fighter, then Lybia will never use vs Italy, cause will be useless.
If Libya select Rafale, in event of problems Italy has to require support to France that could be in the place to choice between to help the italians and damage to her military industry (who wants to buy equipment that can’t be used vs enemies?) or viceversa.
In the next future we can’t foresee who will be the french president and his positions on the matter.

    Nicolas10,
last summer turkish and greek F16 met over Aegen Sea.
Attritions between the 2 airforces happen frequently and is often reported by media.
Do u think Greece will be happy to know that their enemy-neighbour have a superior aircraft?

Turkey is a threat for Greece, Morocco for Spain and Lybia for Italy.
Rafale to Lybia will boost the pressure over the italian air force (AMI) and the italian gouvernment.
The idea to have modern and dangerous weapons of offense
owned by Khadafi or some of Khadafi’s son that never refuse the personal ostility towards italians and never stop to claim the italian Island of Lampedusa can’t let the italians impassible.

For good relations and balance inside EU is better if french don’t sell their unlucky fighter to Morocco, Lybia or Turkey, cause this country represent serious future problem for Spain, Italy and Greece.

well while yours Typhoons will have a old relic of mecanical radar suite, the lybians will get the MKII version with the most advanced AESA suite radar!

while yours Typhoons didn’t accepted the invitation to play air game with M2000 dash 5 of adla with fear to be “doned”, Lybians air force will not have any treat from air farce one!

Saudies are still swapping their eurostuff for a more advanced solution called Rafale!

    Wooow,
I didn’t know Rafale was far superior to EF2000.
So, Rafale is better in air, land and sea???

    That’s for sure 😉
Ours Typhoons are designed for Air-Air and will have no fear of the multirole Rafale.
But, that doesn’t mean that Lybia with Rafale is not a threat or a problem more for AMI.

Good for the deal. Rafale is a good aircraft…. but Lybia.

    That’s a sad news for Rome. 🙁

For example in 1999 we dropped more than 2000 bombs/missile on kosovo.

Vuoi provocare uno scandalo tra pacifisti???

    Take care what you write.
Officially Italy had a low profile in Kosovo and other places. 😡

Armed forces composed by professional soldiers (not frustrated coscripts), well equipped with modern and self made indigenous products of national projects and farms.

    Just for say:
Army: modern MBT (Ariete), Centauro, IFV (Dardo and VBCI), LMV (Panther), ecc.
    AirForce: EF2000, Tornado, Amx, F16, C130j, C27j, Mb339 and others.
Navy: modern aircraft carriers (Cavour and GG), Frigates (modern Horizons, DlP, Maestrale), LPD, submarines (modern U212A and indigenous Sauro class), ecc.

A great tradition (one of the top producer in the world) in helicopters productions. Modern Mangusta attack helicopters, EH101, NH90, and more. Tilt rotors too are produced.

UAV/UCAV: in the front line of projecting and making uav/ucav (Falco and more).
    Space: Vega and others example.

Military comunications: indigenous Sicral and future Sicral II.

May be Italy is still considered the soft flank of Nato.
Not easy to remove such thoughts, but I think that for a lot of armed forces in the world is better to never taste that this thoughts or jokes are true or false. 😉 :p

    So gentlemen.
I try to pose my question again and in pragmatic way.

‘Today (gen, 7th 2007), if You were in the shoes of an admiral that has to choose between the 2 radars (Empar or Herakles) to provide the protection of the fleet, without thinking to technical, political, national interest or budget problems, which radar do you want to have in your best AAW frigates? ‘.

    Or better:
‘ If you were in the shoes of the sailormen of the fleet, that are risking their lifes in a high dangerous area of world with a lot of modern enemy aircrafts, which radar do you like to think is protecting your heads? ‘

Choose only between the italian Empar or French Herakles.

    All right guys.
So. Is it possible to conclude wich radar (Empar or Herakles) is the better choice for the state-of-art AAW frigates Horizon class, not thinking to economics subjects, but only using the head of the soldiers or CVG that need the best protection by their AAW fregates?

‘If you take the Thales brochure at face value, Herakles sounds like a direct equivilent to EMPAR – perhaps even superior?’

If that is true, why the french put a worst radar (Empar) then their better Herakles on their top AAW frigates (Forbin and CP) ?

I begin to have serious doubts over Thales….

Maybe the RN should have seriously considered a ship more long the lines of the Cavour? Especially, considering she plan on operating F-35B’s from the start……………..Personally, I think the CVF’s are a waste unless they plan on operating F-35C’s.

    FLY NAVY:cool:

    Yeaahh,
I don’t understand why to build expensive 75000 tons cv stovl

RN is paying a lot of money for 2 big ship. Why not to pay for a more performant ctol like the french MN does??

For a stovl carrier 40000 tons is a good size. Nosense to build bigger, cause a ctol can operate more missions per days.
