When I go to the most recent unread post for the Duxford Diary (via the button to the left of the thread title), I am taken to the apparent end of the thread – in June? No pages past page 13.

As Admin of an aviation forum, I would like to say that not having a ‘quote’ facility here is a breath of fresh air. The ‘quote’ facility encourages nit-picking detailed arguments that easily turn nasty. Every banning I have had to do started with a multi-quote post detailing the tearing apart of a previous post – often of generalisations intended to be read as a whole, not as segments of sentences to be examined in forensic detail.

Those who are quoting to positively add substance to a previous statement seem to be happy to take the time to copy/paste and “— ” a quote the old fashioned way.

Those that are ‘happy’ (or at least do the extra work) provide evidence. Those that were going to add something but realise they will have to faf around to quote something meaningful to respond to … don’t.

I do though note that a ‘like’ button has crept into the forum on this update. A feature I dislike as it tends to encourage short and flippant posts, the longer ones with lots of time taken to record detail and take a good read tend not to get a ‘like’ as by the time the reader has finished the ‘like’ button is scrolled up and out of sight – yet they are the most interesting, worthy posts. I notice some forum sites have amended the ‘like’ to a ‘thank you’ – in my opinion this would fit the Key forums better – it is polite, encouraging feel and more likely to be used by members – most of whom it is likely are older than in their twenties!

While I agree with treating (and preferably displaying) likes as ‘thanks’, in this case the button is at the bottom of posts so the length comments don’t apply.

Sellout event at NZ Warbirds, photos at link (and it has reasonable distribution in arthouse cinemas as well.)

Good news for us Downunder, distribution agreed in AU and NZ.

Even better news, Warbirds NZ have organised a screening in their hangar before the main release.
Hopefully they can organise a couple of veterans as well.

    Some of our aircraft will parked outside and inside in pride of place will be the iconic MH367 – SUPERMARINE SPITFIRE right beside you and of course your seat – as you are mesmerised by Spitfire the movie;
** Come along and get up close and personal with this beautiful icon of the skies – a Supermarine Spitfire.
    ** Take selfies with her.
** Meet the owner/pilot Doug and our own incredible Spitfire pilots; Gavin, Frank and Liz – one of the very few woman Spitfire pilots in the world.
** Buy a copy of the very limited availability new Spitfire movie book, NZ Warbirds Assoc. has bought out from England especially for this event – there is only 60 of them in NZ and we have them all here at Ardmore – a real collectible.
** Have your new Spitfire book signed by our Spitfire pilots.
** Buy yourself or those lucky kids a cool Spitfire t-shirt.
** Witness the roar and flames of a radial engine outside.
** You might even be able to view the next Spitfire fuselage and a Merlin engine to be restored here at Ardmore.
** If the weather lets us, you’ll see a fast and noisy WW2 P40 Kittyhawk fighter flypast before the movie starts, just to get you in the mood.

Ju-Air flight operations resuming, with additional safety altitude and passengers remaining strapped in their seats.
    https://news.aviation-safety.net/2018/08/16/ju-air-will-resume-ju-52-flights-on-17-august-with-government-mandated-safety-measures-in-place/

To make searching easier in future, I’ll mention that the accident aircraft was HB-HOT.

When I’ve been on DC-3 or Catalina flights the cabin crew have limited passenger movements (a limit of 4 in the Catalina blister area for instance), suggests that W&B issues haven’t been ruled out.

I’ve had a couple of people on Wings Over NZ ask for photos I’ve taken in passing of their flights in NZ. This is in addition to queries from family/friends of people taking warbirds flights are Ardmore that I’ve given my Flickr details to (10.30 and 12.30 are the normal weekend slots at Ardmore so I may as well practice then if I can).

SOUTH AFRICAN CONVAIR CRASH INTERIM REPORT RELEASED

    http://australianaviation.com.au/2018/08/south-african-convair-crash-interim-report-released/
The two highly-experienced Australian pilots of a crashed Convair CV-340 did not follow the prescribed checklist procedures when they discovered an engine had caught fire, a South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) preliminary accident investigation report says.

Was it WONZ that had the WAAF in the radar station? That was a great social history.

If only we had a flying Lanc here in Australia, to honour and commemorate the sacrifice of the Australians in Bomber Command.

For context, this would be in addition to the two well looked after ones inside.

Oi! We have a turret with a gun in it – not sure if Ando has had the pleasure, but the Anson has gone from its base in Omaka to Wanaka and Auckland. I assume some poor sods have been forced to look at the boring scenery on the way! Now the Catalina’s blisters don’t have guns, but give a great view – I’ve been on a scenic.
