Not good but hardly merits drastic reaction but let’s hope the problem can be speedily resolved.
A first?
The entire flight??
Spot on bazv. And just to pick up on a point Beermat. This EU funding is heavily contributed by the UK, which will cease, depleting EU funds. Do all these researchers know that they will not be helped by the UK, from the cash no longer required for financing the EU?
Geoff – top bloke “Flapjack” Whaley. Met him a few times and for my money he and his “Miss” were one of the best display acts around for several years. And certainly the best looking girl on the circuit!!
Never one to say I told you so but I told you so!!!
What a bunch of blinkered incompetent fools.
And still for sale I think. £250,000 and she’s yours!!
I’d like to see a bigger budget version of First Light.
In this particular case I’d rather not. I thought it reflected Geoff’s story and the wonderful book to perfection. Bigger budgets do not always mean better films.
I wouldn’t describe world beating scientific and medical research as largesse. Rather a strange point of view.
Not at all. The EU receives billions from a minority of its membership and redistributes this largesse to the entire membership in a multiplicity of ways.
We’ll have to agree to disagree about our respective definitions of thumping success in this particular context and in respect of a significant part for which the lottery money was given.
David
I am aware that those two bodies offered help. But whether or not it would have resulted in a better outcome is unclear. At Elvington it would have joined the Victor and Nimrod outside.
Yes millions were raised and spent and to what a marvellous end, Years of a very special and unique experience in aviation restoration. The handwringing because its post flight plans have not come to fruition is faintly ludicrous.
But it all stems from a sneering resentment towards the Trust from some who never supported the cause from day one.
It was a thumping success by any measure.
David Burke – which sites? Where’s the actual evidence as opposed to wishful thinking?
From the evidence here the anti Doncaster lobby was/is highly expressive!
No, I don’t think so – the discussion here concerns the aviation aspect of it rather than endorsement of the advert per se.
With a chunk of its income gone the EU will be less able to splash its largesse around particularly as its administrative costs continue to spiral upwards.
Mr Geim and his colleagues might seek their funding nearer to home.
However strongly the anti Doncaster brigade argued for alternatives there is no evidence that any would have been any better.
Yes it is sad but there’s no guarantee that any of the alternative resting places endlessly rehearsed here would have been any better. Hangerage is not guaranteed at Elvington and in any case Lindy remains outside, running and well cared for.
Most of us and millions of non enthusiasts enjoyed her displays over those years and as Alan said crowds were boosted by the Vulcan effect such was her drawing power.
All good things eventually come to an end.
