The link that is above and plain to see!
Okay, okay I forgot to include it! ๐
FE2b indeed. 100 Sqdn. Somewhere in France. The picture is stuck on cardboard and on the reverse are 9 cigarette card sized pictures of various scenes, a couple of crashes, pilots at play etc.
One of the 2 chaps shown is Major C O Bean. I obtained this picture for my collection whilst living in the Isle of Man.
Prior to this, I used to regularly visit another Isel of Man 100 Sqdn RFC veteran, Roy Shillinglaw (he featured in Flypast a number of years ago). He told me various accounts of his time on ops etc. and mentioned a scruffy dog mascot that occassionally went on raids with them. I thought that perhaps his memeory was playing up but when I saw this piccie and asked Mrs. Bean about the dog she confirmed that it had a number of ops under his belt – a genuine dogfighter!
I particularly like the doll mascot on the nose!
Aha!
It all comes back to me (said the sailor as he peed into wind) ๐
Not a DH2.
Not my era either to be honest but I was given it by the widow of one of the pilots, along with a couple of badges and a message streamer still containing the good luck messages from the rest of the squadron, written on RFC & RAF note paper, which was dropped on the church on their wedding day.
Possible as stupid as the fake bomb platend by another reporter before the Olympics. It did contain some wire, some cables and some nails. I mean if they would have removed all that from the site, how on earth should they ever finish the buildings ??
We had a simliar case in Germany i which a man was able to smuggle a packet on knead (to simulate platic explosives) onto a plane. However Iยดm not sure how you would destroy a plane using knead. “Everybody freeze I have some knead. Everybody who does not comply will be hit by deadly pellets of hand rolled knead bullets !!” Doubt it works.
Eh?
What on earth is knead?
The 50 seaters have to have 2 FA’s as well, right?
Yup! But no closet.
Technically your wrong Skypilot62 as Penalty points is NOT a conviction in the UK. If you loose your licence by penalty points this again is NOT a conviction but if you loose your licence through the court that is a conviction.
Not entirely wishing to enter into the finer points of legal discussion but….
I think you’ll find that the distinction I was making was that a conviction is not jail time only. The law about driving penalties is a whole seperate ball game and I was never a traffic plod, just a beat bobbie.
For example, you CAN be convicted for dangerous driving AND get penalty points as part of your “sentence”. You can get caught speeding and receive a fixed penalty and 3 points without recording a conviction. The law as they rightly say, is an ass!
Oh well, perhaps me ole typping skulls arn’t wot thay uzed too bee! ๐
what annoys me about all these “undercover” reporters is the motivation and Sensationalism behind the subsequent report. If they sincerely wish to highlight security issues, does it need to be blazoned across the front of a tabloid or perhaps sent in a discreet report to the DFT? Won’t sell so many newspapers though will it? Nothing like a good bit of scare mongering to boost sales, never mind the potential damage to an already fragile industry. It wouldn’t be half as bad if they got their facts straight even! Again, why let the truth stand in the way of a “good” story. ๐ก
I’d love to see Mr France arrested and charged under the Terrorism act for potentially endangering an aircraft/interferring with a flight etc.
*seeth*
As an ex-BD employee also… the EMB145 has to have 2 cabin crew in the UK dependant on how many rows back down the aircraft have been used. Its all about the fact it has nearly 18 rows of seating. We were also told it was 2 crew operation because of the shout commands not being heard at the back in an emergency situation!
Whiskey Delta – We don’t have a pax seat removed as such, the rear jump seat is still in front of the Lav door, much like your US version I imagine? The reason why the BD and BA models have 49 seats is the closet at the front is where you probably have seat 1A.
Just to throw more spanners in….
Not all BA EMB-145’s are 49 seaters. The ex-Brymon ones are 50 seaters.
I think clarification is needed.
A conviction is when you recieve jail time or your licence is suspended when talking about Driving. If you recieve penalty points and/or a fine (like i got for my accident) then it is not classed as a Conviction.
Not entirely accurate AndrewM…
A conviction is when a court finds you guilty of a given offence. The sentence MAY involve prison time but it could equally mean a sentence of community service or a suspended sentence or any other sort of penalty. A sentence is what is decided after the conviction. Therefore a conviction does not automatically involve doing porridge!
It’s all fairly irrelevant anyway – I read somewhere that 87% of all statistics are made up. ๐
Normally a hot brekkie or brekkie sarnie (Club get brekkies, cattle class don’t, unless you ask super nicely and the crew like you) – no frills and all drinks are complimentary (I mean free – just in case you wonder why your cup of char doesn’t say how nice you look ๐ )
I don’t think the male Crew had to wear the G-strings did they? Perhaps they did – sex discrimination otherwise!
Perhaps they could use some nice classical music to set the mood “Aria in G (String)”
All airside pass holders have had to undergo and are undergoing Criminal Records checks. BA do their’s through an agency in Scotland. Whilst BA or whoever MAY not worry about your past transgressions, DFT (not CAA) may well do so. If you can’t get an airside pass, it doesn’t matter how forgiving the airlines are. May I suggest a few discreet enquiries with DFT?
The crucial point will be a conviction as opposed to a caution. Driving offences, generally, will be irrelevant unless you’ve been involved in a fatality by drunk driving/ dangerous driving. A caution generally won’t be an issue but a conviction could prove sticky.
Just to add 2d’s worth….
It is indeed a pity the collection will probably be broken up but perhaps the family don’t know anyone to have offered it to?
But isn’t it more of a pity that we have lost a greatly dedicated enthusiast. Surely the kit for sale is testament to that? At the end of the day it is inanimate metal, Gordon Howell was flesh and blood. Of course we can’t change what’s happened and we all wish to preserve what he started but life is money talks – Dougie Arnold anyone? I for one wish Graham Adler well if he succeeds in all his bids, or whoever buys it. Of course, Mark 12 is spot on, “Beware the sniper!”
My other great sorrow is I don’t have the dough to buy it all myself!
