[QUOTE=DarrenBe]Since there appears to be a few of us going, anyone want to meet up? Would be nice to put faces to names.
Where & when?

Went back in 2002, when BA merged BRAL, Manx and Brymon to create their masterpeice which is BA CitiExpress by today!
Allthought by now, all prop Manx fleet has left, and the Brymon Dashes are going next year! And the route structue has been cut to only concentrate serices out of MAN, BHX, GLA, EDI, BRS and SOU
Not exactly true ole boy! 3 ATP’s still operate (ex-Manx) but are wet-;eased to Loganair, occasionally dropping in to the Isle of Man.
As for the Dash-8’s of BACX going next year, check your sources. That rumour has been doing the rounds for a while.
BACX also operate out of INV.
I thoroughly enjoyed my 7 years with Manx and I’m proud to have flown in their “colours”. We have a large display of Manx Airlines memorabilia on display at our museum at Ronaldsway, plus some bits for sale. (Cheap plug!)
Is it the updated version of the bouncing bomb?
All sounds like a load of bull (ocks) to me! 😀
Well, someone was bound to say it…! :p
There are a few picts in the departure lounge downstairs, CAM ships etc., but that’s about it althoughI think there is/was a plaque too – lost track since the new terminal opened at JLA.
Okay, my reasoning – with a 400mm+ lens which is probably the minimum you’d need, it would be nigh on impossible to keep the image from blurring if in a light aircraft – believe me I’ve tried, with only a 210mm lens in a commercial aircraft in what appear to be calm conditions.
Second, the aircraft image seems way too crisp compared to the background – almost certainly a digital shot with a standard 35mm background shot. You wouldn’t need a blank background just take a slice from an image of an aircraft taking off earlier/later in the take-off path.
Third – the exhaust haze seems way exaggerated and why is the “haze” between engines 3 and 4 (the 2 left-hand engines as you look at the photo), blurred at the leading edge of the wing? The exhaust heat would have to be coming out of no.3 engine at right angles.
As I say, please prove me wrong, because it does indeed look fantastic. Just wanted to explain my reasoning for doubting. Perhaps it’s just jealousy? 😉
I hope you’re not insinuating I need to vacate said closet Wys? Bearing in mind I did 3.5 years as a cart tart myself and i’m definitely not left footed! 😀
Sorry chaps, but I’m not very optimistic that it isn’t a Photoshop special. Look at the size perspective between the a/c and the road vehicles – the height would have to be only a few hundred feet given the background image but the perspective seems all wrong. similarly, the the jet exhaust heat seems to be coming out sideways, and is a bit OTT.
I’d love to be proved wrong though.
Doesn’t look like a very big hatch James, where would it have been on the aeroplane, in the floor? Rear of the turret? Either way, I can’t imagine it would have been easy to get into, or more importantly, out of… my admiration for those men grows daily… 🙁
Absolutely Steve. Wasn’t there a well-known Defiant gunner (can’t recall name) who was about 6’4″?
Blimey, I more or less got it right, albeit not first! Got to be a personal best, normally I only get as far as “It’s from an aeroplane…”!
Nice one JDK, anymore teasers like that? Bit more fun than obscure a/c recognition. 🙂
Skypilot
Now get scanning!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 😉 😉 😉 🙂
YES SIR! 😀
But it will be a bit later if that’s not too much of a problem?
Hi all
I don’t care who owns the copyright.
It’s a great picture and thanks for posting it.
I do know 100 Sqn. were part of the Independant Force, the World’s first true strategic bomber force and they were engaged in night bombing work on the western front right up until the armistice.
The old ‘FEEB’ was horribly obsolete by then but served out it’s days as a night bomber.
It was probably painted all black on the upper surfaces with the roundels blacked out too.
There are well known publised pictures of aircraft from this squadron around.
Does it say anywhere what the serial number was?
Cheers
Andy
Thanks Andy – at least you seemed to get the point! Sadly, no serials I can make out and I’m a bit loath to post any other pictures in the sets in light of the above hurtful & painful comments! 😉
For everyone else – I DON’T claim to own the copyright, just the photo – it was tongue in cheek, in part, and also to show I haven’t pinched it, and to discourage anyone else pinching it. Also it is certainly over 75 years old, if that applies. It was a gift to me – I own an original print, not a negative. As said, the digital image is mine, all mine, and nothing but MINE! I guess I need to give up my attempts at irony as they tend not to transpose well through a keyboard!
I can’t believe any pictures of HM forces could automatically be their property as that would include any snapshot – impossible to police. Although it sounds beaurocratic enough to be completely true!
BTW – if anyone would like a nice copy of the above, un-marked by me, just say pretty please and it shall be done.
C’mon chaps, a little less with the seriousness already! 😀 Otherwise I’ll take my ball home and throw out my teddies from the pram and post no more piccies again, never, ever, including my Spitfire prototype blueprint facsimile which Jeffrey Quill gave me as a wedding present……
*Clang* (Name being dropped) 😀
entry hatch for a Defiant/Anson/Oxford? Certainly Brit/commonwealth as it’s a .303 Browning pointing skywards.
absolutely! Just making a point to be honest! After the lengthy thread on copyright that I inadvertently kicked off, thought it best just to leave no doubts that I haven’t “pinched” it from someone else. I also placed it in the most awkward spot to airbrush out – not that anyone so inclined couldn’t replace it I’m sure.
