    Slink’s spot on I’m afraid.

Also bear in mind that if your family are paying then it’s for hire and reward – aerial work, which is another no-no without the relevant licence.

Of course, you can sit up front but I’d be inclined not to log it. Your instructor should be aware of all this anyway.

Regarding the whole “Warrior with 2-engines” thing, I’d be real careful. The warrior is fixed pitch, single engined, fuel injected cruising at 105 knots (if I recall). The Seneca is variable pitch, turbo-charged, twin-engined and cruises alot faster (around 160?). If you get it wrong in a Seneca, it’s a VERY different ball game. Having flown both, i know where I’m coming from! They do of course essentially came from the same stable, and have certain similarities, especially cockpit design.

Even if you don’t log the hours it will still be a great trip. I’ve not flown to Alderney, but have flown a fair amount around Jersey/Guernsey and it’s superb if the weather’s good.

    Enjoy!

The Royal Green Jackets comprises a number of former Rifle regiments, mainly from London e.g. Kings Royal Rifle Corps, The Rifle Brigade (Prince Consorts Own). The latter being originally the 95th Regiment of Foot, as seen in the Sharpe novels and TV programme (I think!). They were unique in being the first line regiment to wear less comspicuous green instead of the red uniforms of the day. They also have a faster pace of march than most other units. The RGJ are now an amalgam of various regiments, each battalion representing one of the “original” regiments. Quite sad really but its called progress apparently!

If you want to know more I can bore you further – my best mate served with them and my grandfather served in the Rifle Brigade (Prince Consorts Own) in WW2, plus several relatives served in the Kings Royal Rifle Corps (being a bit of a London lad!)

Presumably the question is one for “OUR” English friends or is that spelt differently overseas as well? 😀 😉

Apparently it was Kristen, the aforementioned sister-in-law. I think it was from a grassy knoll, the bullet coming from the side to the back, the side to the back etc. and was captured on camera at Roswell AFB, which meant she went into immediate hiding and was last seen working in a chip shop near Grimsby alongside a well-known “royal” rock and roll legend who apparently had not left the building after shooting down the Red Baron. Personally I think it was more likely to have been Woodstock the small yellow bird – he was always a better shot. 😉 :p 😀

Am I not taking this seriously enough?

    Steve,

yep, Swanton Morley or as we and many others called it “Swampy Mortuary”. The only highlight was a trip to Coltishall and clambering over Jags, a visiting flight of dutch F-5’s and an RAF F-4 landing with a refuelling “Lobster Cage” stuck to it’s probe.

“Fighter, Fighter burning bright have you lost you probe tonight” was apparently a well sung verse to Phantom jocks!

I did my pre-Nijmegen work-up there too in the 80’s. Still got my RAF Road March medal to prove it! But I don’t like to talk about it son….! 😉

Guess you too had the delights of kipping with several thousand other squaddies, cadets et al. in the huge echoing sports hall? Deep joy!

Thanks Steve – how on earth can you tell that from the photo? Mightily impressed.

Seeing as noone’s guessed my 1988 picture, a few clues – it was a non-flying station in East Anglia, also had a fairly derogatory but very apt nickname.

1989 – St Athan it is!

Anyone care to have a stab at 1988 or do you want some clues?

    DGH,

    1985 – yep, Brize Norton

    1986 – Newton.

1989 – incorrect. Thought this would be an easy one.

You got the looks summed up but wrong location. Not my most exciting camp!

The only time I won “Best Cadet” (out of 80+ on station) on a camp 😀 , and it was a flamin’ non-flying base so instead of the usual fast jet trip winners got, I received a Station Plaque and a handshake – big whoopee! 😡

I’ll see if Abingdon rings a bell with the ole man.

1987 – Laarbruch, spot on Steve. The only camp I had in Germany and all the aircraft were moved out as the runway was being resurfaced – d’oh!

    1989 – Not Waddington

    1985 – that’s an easy one!

Thanks for the info on dad’s piccies. he couldn’t recall where/when how etc.

I certainly hope we’ll be saying “They don’t make them like they used to”! I hope we’ll have improved a bit by then. That said, I wouldn’t hold my breath that it will have even entered service by then! 😉
