Just found this on the Kemble web site…………….topical…
Kemble Airport will be opening its hangar doors again on Sunday 9th September. Kemble Open Day will try to recreate the atmosphere of the old RAF “At Home” Days that were common on most service stations up until the 1970’s. To commemorate Battle of Britain Day there will be a small afternoon flying display featuring a Spitfire and Hurricane from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and an RAF Hawk jet trainer as used by the Red Arrows.
Pleasure flying will be available and Air Atlantique from Coventry will bring along a couple of vintage piston engined aircraft from their collection of 1950’s transport aircraft.
You will get the chance to visit all the flying schools (ASK, BCT, Astra etc.), Ultimate High, the Britannia Preservation Society, Kemble Flying Club and of course Delta Jets, and their outstanding collection of privately owned vintage jets. You may also be able to visit the control tower and view all the visiting light aircraft. Refreshments will be available and the popular AV8 restaurant will be open.
Entry on the day will be £10 per person with children 15 and under going free.

Kemble did more that one open day back then didn’t they????? I seem to remember 2 or 3 in the gap years when the airshow took a break???
Why do organisers have to tell you what to expect at shows????
Surely it is much more fun to arrive in a state of anticipation and be thouroughly surprised at what you see????
Prior to the internet we never knew what was going to appear at shows until you got there, always hoping that you would see that something special but also knowing that you would see some established acts.
Do any of you think that shows have lost some of their spark because of this? Or do you think that it’s better to know what your getting for your dosh????
Get the parking sorted out and stop the free for all bun fight at the crowdline.
Must admit to not going for a number years, and it may have improved, but some of the horror stories you read on sites about the above certainly do not help and have put me off going.
Brian Mercer, Tony Aldridge & Harry Anwar to add to the list
May not have been an MU. It could have been an RSU (Repair & Salvage Unit)?
I may be a bit biased but it should be a great day if you like vintage jet. Delta Jets used to do something similar several years ago to get a feeling for it click on
I think you will find the event is “Kemble Open Day” details on

Yes it is open to the public. Entrance via main gate

Tom, are any of your aircraft planning to make the trip to Kemble on Sunday for their Open Day?
Pete
Just seen this Anson (VM325) at Carew Cheriton near Pembroke. Still on a low loader with covers on but looks complete albeit a bit grubby. The chaps down there have done a fine job restoring the old Tower and turning it into a bit of a museum. Well worth a look if you are in the area, but only open on Sundays.
Yep…………….
a/c was a strikemaster (G-FLYY). No-one hurt, still unsure of the exact problem but the a/c has just departed back to Harwarden, minus its drop tanks.
is it true that Jonathon “Flapjack” Whaley wanted to display Miss Demeanour at kemble but they did not want it there so he was asked if he could tend to the Margate air show which I have heard that he really enjoyed.

Sounds like a bit of bitching to me………….Does it really matter??????
I luckily managed to catch some of the practice display yesterday. It looked great but conditions were not great for pictures.
I thought at the time that this must be a mirage . . . (being in France that should of course be “Mirage”).
And who is the young lady in the passenger seat, readily identifiable by those who have met her . . .
Im sure I saw this a/c at Kemble today……….didn’t look like a mirage……..but then again……..
