Is there a Flypast by the BBMF this year?
Nothing like last year but, I believe, there is a BBMF Spitfire flypast on the cards for Saturday.
Hmmm,
I’am sure Keith Smith will be interested to know that he’s retired!
Marine Salvage may not exist but he is most certainly still trading, though he doesn’t have any(many?) Lightning parts.
Retired from Marine Salvage I meant. I know he’s still trading, I was rummaging through his many barns and sheds recently.
Nothing at Marine Salvage any more because the owner has retired and the company has shut up shop.
As far as I know Lee it’s a pukka F.1A Lightning (XM191) but it’s now been painted up as a 5 Squadron F.6 and used by the RAF’s exhibition contractors as a recruiting aid. Not exactly representative of the aircraft you’d find if you did join up, but beautifully restored and presented all the same!
cannot see it (does not load) what was it?
The RAF Inspectorate of Recruiting’s Lightning F.1A XM191 masquerading as an F.6.
It was at Cockpitfest last year too. Very nice.
Stinky Pete, why on earth are you lecturing a bloke about supporting Kemble when he is ALREADY doing exactly that by going on the Saturday?
“why go to Wellesbourne???”, well maybe he would like to support XM655 as well. Why is it such a “strange decision”?
There was also an ex-Dutch Hunter blown up in Octopussy 😡
N-202 I believe. Have I got that right Dave T?
Wow, the Hunter looks great!
It certainly does. I’m delighted to see it inside and repainted. I’m especially fond of this one as it, and my father, served with the short-lived 233 OCU at Pembrey.
Now, if only they’d painted it the right colour……………. 😮
Does anyone have any info regarding mishaps this aircraft may have had ?
Possibly a belly Landing ?
XF321 is an ex Boscombe birdThanks in advance.
It was a belly landing at RAE Bedford in July 1984 that ended XF321’s flying days.
Ah, but it’s cunningly concealed in the Collections section rather than the Panels section 😉
It’s in Mark Templeman’s section. He has a couple of complete Vulcan panels. I believe some panels are original and some are repros, but I can’t remember which.
He also has a Vulcan windscreen and I’ve often suggested to him he should mount the whole affair on a frame as a sort of ‘open-sided’ cockpit display.
Has anyone done a Vulcan pilots panel ?
Yes. Have a look under the “Collections” section…
I’ll call Robertsbridge tonight and have a chat!! Who knows, may work.
It would be great if you bring yours too…..I am putting together a small display of associated stuff to go with my display.
I have put something on the ICC Forum too.
I would love to take my Hunter too, and that is my aim. I’m desperately trying to get it into a state fit to display though as, at present, it just isn’t safe – too many exposed cut edges, sharp bits etc. where it was chopped. Time is in short supply but I’m going to give it a damned good try. If all else fails and I can’t bring the cockpit I’ll construct an information display showing the history of the aeroplane etc. and display the bang seat, mannequin with appropriate flying kit, models, photos etc..
Good luck with Robertsbridge!
Whitwick is much smaller than Shoreham as it’s held in the sports hall of a leisure centre. These days there are as many militaria, book and model stalls as aerojumble, but it’s getting that way with Shoreham and Popham lately too. Still well worth a visit though and it often turns up different stuff from traders up north who don’t travel all the way down to Shoreham.
See you there!
Tony, I’ve had a go at MT regarding his F.4 several times but I doubt he’ll be attending to be honest. Pity.
What are the chances of Robertsbridge being persuaded to bring their ex-Walpole F.5 do you think?
I’ve got the latest confirmed attendance list now so I’ll put it on the ICC website and add your potential Hunter list as well.
Alex, your profile says you do not allow e-mails. Can you PM your address to me?
The manual is ready to send – it’s about 4.7Mb in size by the way. 🙂
