Re FHC
thanks Eddie – looks great – cant wait till his B17E Flies again
Cloudster
Congrats – that must have given you a very good feeling
Cant wait to see shots
A2 Art
Tom – wish I had that Book – “Flying Cowboys ” ? all about the evolution of the A2
I have a bunch of 100th BG A2 Art Photos , will have to dig em out
meanwhile here’s that shot of yours truly on his WW2 Bike with Boeing Belle A2 Nose Art .The B17 itself made over 100 missions with the 100th BG 351st BS
As her line chief Ken Lemmons once told me “She was a good One “
Me 262 Engine
Rebuilding the Jumo’s with new alloys , bearings isn’t a problem for Mr Allen , its obvious money is not a problem as he is no 2 in the Microsoft Empire
I wonder if he will allow his collection to be viewed by the Public
it would be an amazing visit – particularly during one of his Flying Days
Liberty Belle
Some shots of her on Airliners.net pretty cool ones of the restoration
i flew on Yankee Lady at Reading PA , Hopefully one day i will fly in Liberty Belle
Paul Allen
Looks like he is assembling quite an Air Force out there – he has the B17E also .I once read in Flypast that he will fly his ME 262 with original engines !!!
Miss Angela
Was over at Palm Springs in January for the 100th BG Mini Renion – had a walk thru Miss Angela for $5 , great fun , no Boeing Motif caps on the Yokes though – they could put em on but they walk – sad really
great thread but i would say that wouldn’t I :p
Mustangs
These two are done by an artist friend Charles Thompson who I think is as good as Taylor and Trudgian , just relatively undiscovered
his web is on http://www.btinternet.com/~charlesthompson/index.html.html
a bit different from the Mass Produced Print Market and if you see more of his work you will appreciate why
B17’s
Pretty fantastic – I hadn’t seen those before – I look on Airliners for B17’s on regular basis ,glad you opened this thread Bluenoser ! 😉
Thanks Ron
re book
It does seem pricey but I bet its a great book to have
The Flypast B17 special does have some answers to your questions Tom-pretty dammn good article.Did you get the special yet ?
War Lover
I think one was scrapped Tom – i will have a look later – one of the planes used now flies as Fuddy Duddy i think
have seen some great still images from that movie off the DVD -they look awesome – particularly the end scene with Buzz Rickson limping back over the Channel
Bluenosers
Pretty fantastic idea Bluenoser – I personally would enjoy a 40’s dance in that Community Room .Well I hope you win the Lottery soon and realise your dream
Havent been to Bodney – is it near Duxford
Imagine the ground shaking with the sound of all those Merlins back then – must have been awesome
I have been to the Northern Part of SC – Laurens in fact – I dont suppose you know it -also saw a Musical called “Swing” at Greenville ? – it was about the History of the Jive and Swing Dances that Americans introduced us to over here
Dreams
I would use some money to build a 9th AF airbase complete with the hardstands, then buy 30 + C-47’s repaint them to D-Day markings. have a great w/e flying them dropping jumpers etc. and Big BBQ saturday evening !
Cool Idea -would it be cheaper and more authentic to find the best base still remaining and renovate it – imagine 30 C47’s and Jumpers .BBQ sounds good too
I had a similar dream about doing this at the 100th BG base and having a bunch of B17 ‘s too returning in the pattern , funny thing was a Son of a 100TH BG Veteran in the US had a similar idea too !!
Toms 51
Lucky Bloke that Tom Cruise – he gets all the hot women and now a hot aeroplane .i heard from a pal who lives near Van Nuys Airport near LA that Tom has a Pitts Special , must be nice to have a choice of which aircraft to take for a flight . Must be great to have all that money to make your Warbird Dreams come true – Could this be another thread 😀
B17 Shots
Pretty Dammn Beautiful B17 Man – nice evocative shots over the channel – dont you miss flying in the Ol B17 ?
thanks for sharing 😀
