    Miss Angela

Apparently he sold B-17G-105-VE, N3509G , renamed to Miss Museum of Flying to Bob Pond ( Later renamed Miss Angela ) and then the Bolivain Fort was also there -CP753 ultimately sold to Paul Allen

So Whittington processed two Forts .Miss Angela as she is now known was previously a Fire Fighting Tanker Aircraft

see http://www.air-and-space.com/Boeing%20B-17%20Tankers.htm for info on Miss Angela as she was then

    B17 SHOT

Thanks Chris – they are awesome – very dramatic .I think what comes over in these shots is the fact that it is a very risky flying operation – skill and brvery required in eqaul measures .

I love seeing the 17’s with Civilian Stripes will have to see where this B17 – Tanker 22 is now

will add another by me 😮 ,as Paul C says the next painting is the best , or alternatively you are only as good as your last painting .I must say all this talk of painting and the evocative images is getting me rooting to paint soon

Homeward Bound by Lam Van’t Hof

I particularly like the above painting added by Sunny (e Hangar )

now that is a decent piece of aviation art . The Print Young Eagles looks like a photo – amazing , that little kid perched on the wing looks like he is about to fall off -yikes , glad its only a print

    The Swoose

This is a most interesting thread – amazing that she made her last flight to Andrews AFB In 1953 and almost lost all engines in doing so – looks like she made a landing on one engine – what a testament to great piloting skills and courage .Fantstic that the NASM had the foresight to accept the Bomber for future display

I imagine it will be very difficult to find old B17 C/D Parts if they are going to restore her to her original config

Does anyone have a shot of her cockpit as it is now ???????????????

    – I Wonder if she has many of her instruments or YOKES remaining as she was reported to be Vandalised during a period of outdoor storage for 6 years from 53

I was at a friends apartment at Long Beach (On the Roof ) and one of those DC3’s came over – it was a beautiful sight against the Clear Blue Californian Sky – it sounded pretty dammn good too

Agree that Paul C’s Vulcan is one of THE best of a Vulcan I have seen – the light , clouds , landscape and plane are all in harmony with one another and all look right -just beautiful

Geoff Nutkins is one of my favourites – in fact I have one of his prints on my Living Room Wall – think its called “Salute to the Few” – great Desktop Wallpaper facilty as well

    http://www.aviartnutkins.com/wallpaper/download/Nutkins_Wallpaper_5l.jpg

I am not sure about the correct shape of the Left Wing and Roundel on the Spit in Ace of Ace’s maybe a little out of kilter -its not far out – the wing shape of a Spitfire is notoriously difficult to capture correctly ,overall its a great painting .I love Geoff’s Cloudscapes

The Above painting is one of Trudgians that I like – John Young is also one of my favourites , so much choice . I had a go at painting metal for the first time about two years ago – it was hard but here’s the result

    called Past Reflections

I would like to enter a painting for the Guild Exhibition but i guess I would have to start one very soon

    B17 Cockpit shots – ex CP 891

Thought I would add these since my visit to the Ex Bolivian Freighter at March AFB – please note in the shot looking down at the Main Panel there is the smaller switch panel under the instruments -lower centre , now note the red safety latch which covers the Landing Gear Up Down Switch . It gaurds the switch so it cannot be accidentally touched and pushed up to raise the Gear when selecting up or down flaps (which is nearby )

The Accident to Aluminum Overcast was caused when the Gear Switch was knocked and the Gear raised whilst she was finishing her Landing roll off the runway .I believe Aluminum Overcast didn’t have this Safety Latch or it was removed . It was a standard feature of B17’s after leaving the Factory

I think the volunteers at March are doing a great job restoring Return to Glory
