Fuddy Duddy and B17 Gear Switch
i add a couple of shots I took of the Douglas Built B17 which is the ex Bolivian B17 cp 891 – She is now at March Field in California – got to se her in January
Note the clip which gaurds the landing gear switch on the top right of the flat panel – to raise the gear you have to pull the clip up to flick the switch – amazing that such a little switch can control such a big gear . I definetely know that Lockheed made a modification on a similar type of gaurd on their B17’s produced in the War
Loved the shots Gary -liked your comment bout the plane rumbling on behind you !- hope you have fun at Oshkosh
EAA B17
mmmm , If memory serves me right thats what I recall being reported – was there not a report into this accident by the FAA ?
Crazy Horse
Tom – I hope you get to do it someday soon – sounds great fun flying in Florida – your respect and appreication for the Mustang Pilots would go up significantly if you had a ride in a 51 – it just gives you that bit more insight into what it must have been like for them .
Personally I quite happy to watch em and hear that beautiful Merlin sound – great to know you went up in the 17 and 24 – i will have another 17 ride someday – might go out to California next May to see them tour LA – they re currently out on the West Coast .
Fuddy Duddy was at Van Nuys last weekend BTW
I will see if I can borrow the pictures from a friend !!
interesting aviation
Why go to Spain – looks like u got it all in Norfolk 😮
Charles T
Thanks Marty and Steve – Charles is also a Member of the Manchester Aviation Art Society of which I am Vice President – he is a very avid promoter and innovator in aviation art circles – he is also a member of the EAA Art Scholarship i think
He is a great inspiration and I wish his work was more widely recognised
I am not a menber of the Guild yet but maybe one day soon I will be 🙂
Aviation Art – latest work
I will add my latest effort and the link from the previous thread that Yak 11 Started – its quite download intensive as lots of good images

The 17 is one my friend Earl flew in ” Hard Luck ” – she flew with the 100th BG from Thorpe Abbotts until she was shot down May 7th 44 ,fortunately Earl finished his tour a few days earlier on this plane –
Her last two digits were 13 and she arrived at TA on the 13th also and Earl’s crew was no 13 – Hence the name
Yes Charles Thompson does make an amazing impression of light -he has a book out called Wings which is sometimes available off e bay
Kind Regards Ron
Av Art
Hi Marty – yeah I too am lucky enough to know Charles Thompson
I think he is up there with the best of them – the ironic thing is he is relatively little known
I added a couple of his pictures of his on the previous aviation art thread which Yak 11 Started
i will also add a painting i intend to finish soon !!
Kind Regards Ron
Crazy Horse and Stallion 51
Ha, Tom i was going to ask you had you been down to Kissimee and done that experience – I think it would cost big bucks – they have a website -they dont mention the price -they just say Contact them

Tom – if you can afford this go for it – I flew in the B17 and that was well worh the 350 USD I paid -your only young once – no rehearshals in life eh :p but of course you know that
Of course you would have to go up in the Blue Noser and not Mad Maz !!!
Re Collection
Interesting story Sunny thanks – I cant find it on e bay but will try again after I have slept some after my last night shift 2 hours ago
Your web is fascinating and I will make a point of re visiting again soon

Thanks Tom – saw a website once which sold em – however I got mine as a gift from a friend in LA – he is one of the founders of the West Coast 918th BG So I was pretty lucky .Great film though aint it and those first 10 minutes are just great .
Re Jules
No – I havent heard from him either – maybe he will catch this being posted again
Spitfire Ace
Yes Tom – a friend in LA watched it and he said he got quite emotional listening to one of the Vets recounting his Air Combats – a great programme indeed .Bomber Crew is pretty good to !
A2 Patches
Thought I would add a pretty neat patch – I will probably get one of these for my next A2 – Presently I have the 351ST BS Patch on my A2 – The Tokyo Turkey logo . I feel most aligned to the 351st – Thomas Murphy and his Piccadilly Lilly were in that Sq -now there’s a famous plane !!
re enactors
Some of these guys go a long way to recreate accuracy
Seen at Reading WW2 Weekend in 2002 – I recall it was a hot day !!
a year later I returned and had a flight in that shiny B17
Great Airshow and event
Germans
Or the Bombs of the 100th Bomb Group
