Late 1960’s, Watsonville California airport had a fly-in. The show featured aerobatic flying (my first hammerhead stall, I remember a lady screamed because she thought the aircraft had a real problem). I also remember a “slow flying” contest wehre various aircraft flew down the length of the runway as slowly as possible. A B17 very nearly won that contest!

Very unusual to see a US Phantom coming on board and on the deck of the Ark Royal. Not surprising considering cross training.

The deck looked very small compared to current US carriers.

I wondered what happened to that fuselage.

About 13-14 years ago, the Museum of Flying in Santa Monica California held a charity auction of donated bits and pieces (plus some flying aircraft) and one of the items was an F-104 fueslage.

When our first child was small, we had one of those thingys. One day I could hear the neighbors bickering, their baby monitor was on our frequency.

I was enjoying the eave’s dropping until I realized that those things work two ways.

    I threw it away.

LIH (Lihue, Hawaii) is my favorite becasue it is the airport for my favorite place on earth, the Island of Kauaii. This is the tropical island where they filmed Jurasic Park and Raiders of the Lost Arc.

LIH is a small airport, no jetways and the waiting areas are open to the tropical breezes. There is something sterile and impersonal about a modern airpoprt with jetways, you never really get the impression that you are boarding a plane, just walking down a tube to sit in another tube. I love the smell of Av Fuel and walking along the ground and looking up to my aircraft.

I am amazed that it would be cost effective to manufacture aircraft with this type of transportation neccesary between assembly facilities.

    Wys,

Thank you to you all that made a special day happen for some deserving kids. My sick son has been on the receiving end of these types of events and they are always day brighteners.

The Korean Pennisula is the traditional invasion route into and out of the Asian mainland. North Korea serves as a buffer to prevent the larger powers (US, PRC, Japan, Russia) from using the Korean Pennisula from that traditional invasion route.

The latest round of “trouble” with NK started because Bush (in his infinite wisdom) cut off the flow of charity oil being sent to NK (FDR cut off Japan’s oil supplies in the late 1930’s, forcing them to attack). Like a child ignored, NK needed to launch a few missles to get some attention. While NK may be exporting some missle technology it is generally second rate, low throw weight stuff.

NK serves a purpose, just the way it is. Only a moron would upset the stauts quo. I guess that means Bush will target NK next.

Aw cheese…. I love it. Here in the US quality cheese has to be imported becasue the average American believes that orange is the natural color for “cheddar.”

For a real treat, melt some blue cheese over your hamburger with some bacon. Add grilled onions if you wish.
