Evening all,
It is really great to see those two “old ladies” looking in such great shape.
I notice that the Bae aircraft G AHKX is listed in G-INFO as C19. Is C19 not a military designation and should it be Avro XIX series 2 ?

Regarding the loss of AM541 ZS-N on 27-7-41 I have two of the crew names Sgt. Downer and Sgt. Attwood but the CC Hudsons usually had a four man crew. Does anyone have the other two crew names. Graphil, i wonder did your Dad makes any reference to them in his notes?

The Irish connection, does this count?

The IAC also had many wheels up incidents, could this be a Vickers design fault?
Whilst trawling through the grey area ( and its getting greyer) I seem to recall only one wheels up landing by an Irish Air Corps Spitfire (163) and it was on its delivery flight.

Many thanks to you both, and now I have to see can I find a Firefly that crashed in Lough Foyle ( probably operating out of Eglinton)
Thanks again.

The Irish Air Corps base at Baldonnel is Casement Aerodrome Baldonnel and or Baldonnel Aerodrome, the Queen landed there on her visit to Ireland in May.
IIRC,
Many of his papers are in the Australian War Memorial; I’ve handled them myself, and there are several reasonably reliable accounts of his life and a film; the book and film ‘Last Plane Out of Berlin’ are worth seeking out.

James,
I wonder did you have much of a look at his papers when you handled them?
On 28 July 1945 he arrived at Collinstown (Dublin Airport) in the Lockheed 12 Bu no 02947 later GATGL flown by Lt Dold also on board were Sgt Hale and a Mr Jonasses. They had dinner with an Irish Senator and left next morning for N Ireland but force landed in Co Mayo, no injuries. Have not succeeded in finding out the object of the visit, am wondering is there any reference to the incident in his papers?

I always look forward to my Friday fix from Brian’s pics

Hi Steve,
I believe it was Vintage Fabrics at Audley End. The colour scheme, markings dimensions and locations came from my files following Declan contacting me.
All the best

Great pics, looking at the pics showing the upper surface I notice that the walkways have a yellow surround. Never applied on the original scheme and not on the Air Corps instructions issued by the drawing office. Just wondering is this a new instruction/regulation ?
Tony K
Thanks Tony – looks very nice – who applied the scheme?
