This is assuming the US would want to get involved in S.E. Asia so soon. Lets say 2013 for example….B-52H’s, B-1B’s, B-2A’s, F-15C/D/E’s, upgraded F-16C/D’s, F-22’s, upgraded A-10’s, EA-18’s, upgraded F/A-18C’s, F/A-18E/F’s and so on.

One big advantage of a catapult is you can adjust the power accordingly to the weight of the A/C. An F/A-18C is going to need less cat power than an F/A-18E or F-14D. An F/A-18E with AMRAAMS and Sidewinders is going to need less cat power than an F/A-18E loaded with 4 x 2000lb LGB’s or JDAMS. This gives more flexibility than using engine thrust alone. Esp when operatong in hot and humid conditions.

Tornado is the European F-111. With less range of course. Yes it really should have been bigger, at least F-4 sized. However, it was designed to deep strike into the Warsaw Pact areas (E.Germany, Poland, Hungary and possibly Baltic Russia) from W.German bases.

Su-24 is much bigger than Tornado but has similar range due to thirstier turbojets.

    Hell, why not include Canberra’s, A-5 Vigilante’s, B-47’s and TU-4’s….????

I’d say Raptor. The F-15’s wing is not as triangular and is somewhat softer in profile. Also the air intakes have the sloped raptor profile.

Gents, lets stick to the main agenda – why does Iran want nukes?

Well, having nuclear weapns is one clear way of saying to the world “we’ve arrived”. Having such weapons puts you up there with the big boys. Remember how ordinary people in Pakistan and India whooped and cheered when each country detonated nuclear warheads a few years ago? Of course there were those who say “how can Pak and India justify spending hundreds of millions if not billions of $/£ on nuclear technology when tens of millions in these countries like in abject poverty? Those cheering people in Pak and India know this but still they cheer. Why. Because it was a source of national and international pride. Esp when both Pak and India are such rivals in almost every aspect.

With regards to Iran, nukes would make them look more impressive than they are militarily. Nukes would at least in the minds of some Iranians act like a Doberman guard dog ready to bite the Western imperialist burglar on the backside should he be foolish enough to try a smash and grab raid.

Of course, its not just about nucler weapons, but about nuclear technology which includes nuclear power generation.

Iran says power generation is what it is interested in. Not weaopns. However, as some have pointed out, why does Iran need nuclear power when it is sitting on a sea of oil?? One reason could be to have flexible and adaptable power sources without relying on one single source of power. Another could be for Iran to use as little of its own oil as poss. After all, this is a major cash cow for them. Brings in billions of $ in foriegn earnings and they may not want to use it up too quickly. And of course, there’s the national pride angle.

Threatning Iran with military action to me is not the best option at this stage and i hope it does not goet this far. The best couse of action is to work with opposition groups in Iran. Many millions of Iranians do not agree with their current political and religious leadership just as tens of millions of Americans and Brits dissagree with Blair and Bush…..

Do I have the right answers? I wish I did! I’d either be stinking rich or have the Nobel Peace Prize or both! Hell no! These are just my thoughts….

Well I had a couple of the Texans. Gave the rest to my niece and nephew. A lot smaller than I expected. Still, the taste bought back memories….
