There is a picture in the paper this morning of two small lengths of sawn tree trunk in a road. They have been coned off, no doubt awaiting removal by someone in full protective clothing, ear defenders, hard hat and heavy duty gloves.
if a driver fails to notice two tree trunks in the road ( however small ) cones are of little use
an eye test or a driving ban would be more apropriate !!
kids do not come with cones around them !!

What’s even more pathetic about this discussion is that the dog has absolutely nothing to do with the Dambusters story other then that he belonged to Gibson and was killed that day. .
wrong !! the dogs name was chosen for the codename for the mission ( an extremely important part of battle plans and history)
perhaps we can have opperation ” supermarket garden ” or ” opperation overtitledperson” for the new p.c. age
i too admire the tuskegee airmen ( how would it feel if important significant details were missing from a remake of that film ?? )
or if important details were left out of ” men of honour ” the carl brasheer story
yet one word that is historicaly correct, that is used in correct context in another film and everyone goes crazy
it is about time we grew up and took it as it was historicaly accurate !!
I would imagine that the majority of posters on thread are white males, average age 40s or 50s, working/middle class and therefore unlikely to have been on the receiving end of much racial abuse in their time. I know some who have and it isn’t nice. The use of words and language are powerful weapons these days.
I think within some there is a desire to actually be offensive in the interests of “historical accuracy”.If in order to tell a story of bravery and ingenuity a trivial fact has to be changed – so what?
It won’t be the only factual error in the movie I bet.
youre quite correct i once lived pretty much in moss side manchester in my early 20’s so me being white was obviously never called anything from blacks !!
race is always there , taking the pi** will always be there
the only time words like this offend me is when they ” are used to deliberately offend “
and that is what todays society has lost the abillity to do sepperate deliberate offence from the words just being used as communication
it is intresting to watch commedians , rappers , etc etc use the word with gay abbandon , yet as soon as it is a factual historical dog/mission name people go appopleptic !
OK, so factual RAF history is to be changed so as not to offend US audiences.
Why not just change the title to ‘Those Goddamn Busters’, and use B-17s led by Samuel L. Jackson, who incidentally owns a stupid damn Westie?
fantastic !! did you shop that yourself ??:D
hi dan,
oh and i was one of those “hippys” but i came from a working class background.:)
so am i !!
i also thaught i was working class , then i went to liverpool and discovered i was probbably middle class !! 😀
ah the famous d.day codename ..underlord
because some thaught over was a condescending word
correct names in history are vital … we are teaching a generation that the only contact will be this film
the correct names will be lost eventualy
the biggest problem is the do gooders are usualy white middle class hippys that would run a mile if they had to socialise with black people !!
why’s there only one monopolies commision though ???

Roy Clarke wrote some real gems, early Last of the Summer Wine (before it became the elephants graveyard for old English actors) was superb. .
the thing that was a crime for fans of this show was that the last ever episode was absolutely dire ( even compared to the rest of the final run ) it was as if they didn’t actualy care about the signifficance of it !!
although no matter how good the stars were it lost it’s way once compo and nora had gone !!
