The aircraft – transporting 510 occupants – had been cruising in Canadian airspace, some 260nm north-east of Montreal, when the crew was alerted to “heavy” electrical smoke and fire beneath seat 10C, says Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
Its incident bulleting on the 2 August incident states that a passenger power bank – a battery-powered portable device for providing electrical supply – was the source, and was “stuck in the seat mechanism”.

India Jaguar fighters face upgrade challenges
“Not only is the upgrade program slow, but the autopilots on the Jaguar aircraft are malfunctioning,” the IAF official said.
Furthermore, only 18 autopilot systems out of a required 108 could be integrated on Jaguar aircraft, according to a second Air Force official. India contracted the purchase of 35 autopilots from Thales of France on the Jaguar, which were received between December 2006 and January 2008.
Due to contractual restrictions, HAL could integrate only 18 out of the 35 autopilots up until March 2017.
And the autopilots installed on the aircraft are functioning at a suboptimal level because a vital component ― the Auto Pilot Electronic Unit, which maintains the flight path of the aircraft ― required repairs by Thales, which are expected to be completed in 7 to 26 months.

Malaysia considers ‘several’ proposals to renew MH370 hunt
Newly-published satellite images – captured 15 days after the disappearance – might indicate the possibility of aircraft debris, and oceanic drift modelling has pointed to a potential alternative impact zone.
Malaysian Department of Civil Aviation chief Azharuddin Abdul Rahman says the new information will be included in its examination of proposals to resume the search.
“We remain to be guided as to how this [information] can be used to assist us in identifying the specific location of the aircraft,” he adds.

On the other hand, a 1200kg drone with 400kg payload that can fly 24+ hours up to 25000ft in artic conditions is a real achievement that don’t need any excess of pompous comments (They would need a more serious sat datalink).

Air Force captain belly-lands A-10 with no canopy

DeVries was in the middle of his second run when a “donut of gas” enveloped DeVries’ gun and aircraft.
At that instant the canopy blew off and exposed the pilot to 325 knot winds. The winds overtook his helmet and slammed into his chest. DeVries’ head was buffeted back and forth as he worked to control the aircraft and climb to a higher altitude. Instinct kicked in and DeVries lowered the seat as far as it would go to offer some protection from the air around him and assess the damage.
