In the case of B-52 re-engine, we are using that time to do digital engineering for the engine and pod integration, so we have all three industry bidders on one contract. We have Boeing on contract. They are working together as part of the source selection. They will deliver their virtual prototype to us by October. We would normally not even be on contract, and already we have a deliverable that will help us understand the challenges of integration. Are they able to keep the center of gravity and the fluid flow around the power pod? Are they able to keep that the same? We will have that earlier.

XB-70 : I think you are focused on fighter jet. Please, have a look below at Saab other products (those are only airborne component but think also at all their product range):

Map with Saab Erieye operators in blue Brazil

Greece

Mexico

Saudi Arabia

Sweden

Thailand

United Arab Emirates

Hint: Saudi-Arabia was the prime Arm buyer outside of the USA last year (https://qz.com/1434053/saudi-arabia-…pons-and-arms/)
So b/w BAE and Saab, they have cornered much of the money making prospect to become the real Bonanza in the eyes of all serious investors… The so said 6th gen fighter market has never been less nebulous than yesterday.

Don’t forget Saab’s customer network by far outranging the limits of that Nordic state. 😉

As underlined above, the Mirage 50 didn’t really have a radar* to claim the best of air superiority skills but it made its way in some airforces that appreciated that easier to sustain Mach 2 light Mirage. As a new airframe with advanced avionics regarding what fielded the competition, I don’t see any incoherence to not have added it to the mix. Still, F-5E/F or even ex-USAF F-5A/B would also have had to be included also in due logic.

Boeing 737 Max’s Autopilot Has Problem, European Regulators Find

EASA, in its recommendations, stopped short of telling Boeing how to address the issues, instead asking the company to propose solutions that will then be assessed, the person said. For example, if Boeing can prove the effectiveness of a new training procedure that doesn’t include the more burdensome requirement for simulator training, it could avoid that additional expense.

IMOHO it’s time for Boeing to set their own sponsored Training syllabus and reach out to the public expectation on safety. The days of hybridized airframer qualifications are over when awarness of flight is lagging behind what it should be and mitigated by the complexity of FCS that are here foremost to make for the lag in engineering b/w the main two competitors. The size of each fleet make for plenty of opportunity for any individual without requiring qualification on different airframe. It’s an opportunity for Boeing and those that have embrassed the full authority concept to build a new way for this industry, safer and more economical (single pilot flight, less cost on airframe qualification…)).

Boeing and North America will have an edge for a while in aviation Science and Test facilities.

If you are not convinced, you could read this piece from FlightGlobal summarizing last an-148 crash report:
https://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/analysis-an-148-pilots-opposing-inputs-during-fata-459481/

The way some crew are over relying on system inputs is only akin to group somnambulism. A simple set of watch embedded accelorometer could have prevented this and other accident… for cheap.

Oh it was more about the dramatic screen of the video, not that someone get panicked.

ADC aircraft such as the F-94 Starfire, F-89 Scorpion, F-101B Voodoo, and F-4 Phantom were controlled by SAGE GCI. The F-104 Starfighter was “too small to be equipped with [SAGE] data link equipment” and used voice-commanded GCI,[2]:229 but the F-106 Delta Dart was equipped for the automated data link (ADL).[citation needed] The ADL was designed to allow Interceptors that reached targets to transmit real-time tactical friendly and enemy movements and to determine whether sector defence reinforcement was necessary.[24]

Familiarization flights allowed SAGE weapons directors to fly on two-seat interceptors to observe GCI operations.[citation needed]Surface-to-air missile installations for CIM-10 Bomarc interceptors were displayed on SAGE consoles.[75]

Scramble reports that an interesting set of Su30MKI, C-17 and Il78MKI will be based in South West of France at Mont de Marsan during an exercice lasting bw the 1st and 14th of July. An interesting Opportunity not to miss if you are on vacation around.

Indian Air Force Su-30MKI Flankers on their way to France

The Bharatiya Vayu Sena (BVS, Indian Air Force) is participating in this year’s Garuda VI exercise at Mont de Marsan (France) with four Sukhoi Su-30MKI Flanker fighter aircraft. The exercise will start on 1 July 2019 and continue until 14 July 2019.

In a brief video about the exercise Air Commodore M. Ranade revealed that four Su-30MKI fighters, two Boeing C-17A Globemaster III transport aircraft and one Il-78MKI aerial refuelling tanker would depart from Bareilly AFS on Tuesday 25 June 2019.

I wonder if we will see them invited for the French national day parade in Paris 🙂

Edit:
Seems they already arrived 2 days ago (in Fr)

French Gazelle pilots arrowing MEDEVAC (in Fr)

Read also report by RFI that uncovered the story: http://www.rfi.fr/afrique/20190624-h…tage-audacieux

Ggl Translate:

A Gazelle helicopter on Operation Barkhane was shot down by jihadists on 14 June on the border between Mali and Niger. The French state-major spoke until then of an “emergency landing”.

Friday, June 14, in the morning, the soldiers of Barkhane lead to fighting in the heart of a jihadist hideout on the border between Mali and Niger, helped by the forces of both countries. A French Gazelle helicopter then tries to connect a 7.62 caliber Kalashnikov-PKM machine gun which caused a fire and a loss of power, obligatorily the crew to make a reversal near the fighting, on a dusty ground with a reduced visibility.

The pilot and the leader At the back, an elite commando is a little less well. He manages to extract his comrades from the aircraft, first and foremost a Tiger-type attack helicopter to come to assist them, at the risk of being shot in his turn.

But this two-seater machine is not designed for transport. Barkhane’s soldiers then apply an immediate measure: the two most seriously blessed soldiers are strapped to the outside of the aircraft, near the landing gear. The commando joins the broken machine, blows it up and exfilters into another device.

This event is signified by the state of mind of the fighting that has taken place in recent weeks on the border between Mali and Niger. That day, 20 members of an armed group are probably involved in the Islamic State group for the Great Sahara. Twenty motorcycles, weapons and means of communication were recovered, then the major state in French.

The three soldiers wounded in the crash were able to join a military hospital in France.

We have discussed that already but the Survival of the front seat occupant in case of crash is compromised in the Gazelle by the weird installation of the Viviane roof mounted sight without bracing.

no it wasn’t unique…. F-94C, SabreDog (L & K), F-89, F-102… all were built before the Draken with an operational Datalink.
