    No I don’t say that. Obviously not. But CO2 are inherent to all combustion process. Rejects are only a function of the rpm and volume of cylinders (Air Admissions = X% fuel injection). With an engine functioning at a lower rpm range and mostly small diesel fitted inside cars, the game was tricked.

    Diesel fuel have a higher percentage of chemical components that will combine to create Nox components and their inherent partial combustion process is central to that and leads to the massive reject of particles.

    The usage of Diesel in internal combustion engines is justified only with big block fitted on vehicles that are able to cruise mostly at low rpm (truck, planes etc…). Trapping a peanut sized engine inside a small/medium or even a large car is simply an ecological disaster That’s what was done for years in a total hypocrisy.

    The CO2 reduction has always been a false excuse in that case. A way to bypass any debate regarding Nox and particulates.

    The problem with Diesel emission is well known. I myself worked aside of that subject and raised awareness as early as 2001. Numbers were already alarming with a 10 fold difference b/w engine type. 17 years ago… I am sure that people involved in combustion research and with an healthy civic sens had done the same in all corner of the industry. Fact are that nobody cared much among the public that kept seeing the cost incentive* as a rare sacred cow.

    Then there was the industry and the political sphere seeing the massive switch to Diesel as a discreet protectionism measure. France and Italy nosed dive on this producing often the dirtiest Diesel engines for general consumer cars upon the very last day of a new regulation entrance (France) and the national oil industry began producing Diesel products by its own, securing their respective national market. It was seen by many as a win win strategy and those who raised alarm were simply dismissed.

    The worst was when taxes incentive were applied only to Diesel – all private cars included. The market went down the cliff for really cleaner engine and the Eu R&D in that domain entered an Ice age.

    The worst disaster is to come sadly. People generally figure it as another climatic thingy but both effects will have a synergistic effect, plaguing certain cities periodically to the point that Health and local economy will be affected. The forest of fingers will then start to raise pointing at each other and this could potentially become an international matter aptly discussed at the end. But then who will have another look at that ridiculous cost incentive?

    Airbus management is holding discussions with governments about reducing further financial blows related to the A400M. Enders blamed the plane’s problems on misguided decisions made at the birth of the program in the early 2000s and exacerbated by problems with engine suppliers and delivery delays that led to big financial penalties.

    Europeans are empty handed. Their Military transport is no more than a candle light in a tempest, their logistic is unable to sustain peace time activity without relying heavily on Russian assets and competing with their political priorities. What will you do in tense period, fax Moscow your air transport request?
    Hopefully, so far they are not broke and with the rise of Military expenditure, there might be a light at the end of the tunnel if priority are set in the right direction.

    The answer from Gen. Herbert “Hawk” Carlisle

    One of the biggest problems with the F-35 program was the “concurrency” of the engineering and manufacturing development phase [(EMD)] and the production phase, he noted. In hindsight, pursuing that acquisition path was probably a mistake, he suggested.

    “We thought … we could do EMD … at the same time we’re producing airplanes,” Carlisle said. “That caused some of the problems that we had to go back and fix.”

    The Air Force will take lessons learned from the F-35, F-22 and B-21 [?] Raider programs and apply them to the penetrating counter-air project, he added.

    Boeing to source part at Sheffield (777&737):

    Boeing’s Portland Fabrication site in Oregon [is] an existing Center of Excellence for complex machining, gear systems and flight controls. Parts for the Portland line will also be made on a new production line to be established in Sheffield, England, where Boeing has a long-established association with Sheffield University’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC). The site will be Boeing’s first fabrication facility in Europe.

    Great. It seems they had a second look at the short ground clearance during landing due to the config having pusher propeller that would lead to instability of the slipstream. Hence the vanes allowing them to not go with a forced high descent rate.
    The airfoil seems to have some reflex. Given the speed range I guess it’s for pitch trim only.

    Well from my personal interactions with Boeing employees (not on the program) they do seem highly confident and expect Boeing to develop the BTX further. Even to the point of doing so if they are not down selected. TIFWIW

    So to speak, Employee expectations and corporate strategy are not always on the same line.

    By the way, I was looking at the type of flying boom used on the prototypes to get an indication of where they where in the flight regime and didn’t found the exact model. But I have to say that I would be more used to stare at the one fitted on NASA planes.

    Now that they have a budget for an Air force and a Continent they gonna sink it altogether… Oh wait…

    The 390 would make for a good fit (Marime patrol/Transport/Tanker in a single airframe).
