    For the others, you can see that on the SH the rebound impart a vertical move of the pilot. Not on the 35.

    If you want to refer to the max tow weight, you are probably in the 560 N/m of torque. I recentely had to quickly design a leight weight/high capacity trailer and I was amazed… (it could tow customer thing on mud with some slope!) 😉

    Some time trim drag reduce lift that lower induced drag… You can have a positive balance since a wing is a much larger surface than a small flap.
    For example, most modern fighter use spanwise dissimilar lift to induce drag much better than a traditional airbrake 😉

    Damping seems inapropriate. The back and frwd heads moves won’t left a pilot with hundred of cycles unhampered. No one want to reach a point where pilots start to complain.

    The helmet is balanced in its forward and rear sector to lessen pilot fatigue. With the acceleration imparted by the launch, the wobelling is more severe in amplitude, forcing on the pilot neck. That is what I see on the video. It’s not an hundred of pages sciences exposĂ©.

    If I am right, it’s nada to do, you know. They won’t poor billions to correct this.

    New drift model in study

    Six replicas of the flaperon will be sent to Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization’s oceanography department in the island state of Tasmania where scientists will determine whether it is the wind or the currents that affect how they drift, Hood said. This will enable more accurate drift modeling than is currently available.
    If more money becomes available, the Australian bureau plans to fit the flaperons with satellite beacons and set them adrift at different points in the southern Indian Ocean around March 8 next year — the third anniversary of the disaster — and track their movements.

    At 4:16 for example, during the catapult launch, the damper doesn’t seem to prevent a rebound from the front leg. The pilot’s head giggle uncomfortably to me. Seems that most launches see the same front wheel jumps.

    Some arrested landing are similar. Although the oscillations look like less severe.

    Hiring, leasing,embedding with foreign air forces, sharing resources, the possibilities today are multiples. Cost is not often a real excuse.

    For example, Argentina should share/embeds with Chiliian Air force and Brazil Navy. If you look at the map, all the south part could be guarded with a dual air force. Cost, resilience and stability would benefit all actor involved. Gone are the time when those countrie could/would go to war against each other. In other words, it’s time to cash the dividends of peace.

    On another part of the world, Slovakia and Prague should re-unite their air forces. And I am sure there are plenty other case study.

    What strikes me the most is that the tempo of geopolitical rebalance is much slower than before. This has left a comfortable margin of time to negotiate /renegotiate new alliances and deal with unexpected economic slowdowns.

    And then they are technical causes to get convinced of not shutting down…

    I agree that I took some risk here*. But look at the ratio b/w a single inlet and the outlet surfaces. It is a sign to me that a largely asymmetric airflow was in the mind of the designers.

    * it might be more linked to the flat nose sides and beta rate.

    Everything smells high alpha in it*. I won’t be surprised that it can reach 40deg aoa.
    What puzzles me is the front wheel (pushed frwd for later central load carriage – something that have been problematic on the 5/20). Is that a semi recessed config?

    Small nose – massive vertical tail – rounded LE – outward canted gapping inlets – anhedral – elevator flap (minimal thrust vectoring by flap – cold airflow) – reduced frontal RCS – ultra minimal wing…

    Wow. Two decades of aero innovation in a single low cost/quicly designed/ quickly tested airframe… Experience is a rewarding thing I guess.

    Oh by the way, I offer some free length of rope to the guy who canceled the EADS Mako!

    It’s already been reported that F-35s are wearing out the wire faster than usual due to hitting the same wire.. over and over again.

    In a recent article (UPI?), the Navy is already planing how to cash the benefits by shortening the carrier recovery operations and cutting down the number of tanker sorties (hence the number of tanker – hence increasing the number of supporting aircraft (Growler/ E2).

    Dynamic stress is known to indulge more damage than the single sum of static solicitations. Stress coeff can be as severe as 2.5 in simple applications (got it you at ATR?)
    The increased damages from the repeated impacts of a several tons aircraft in a single zone is something that won’t surprise anyone with an engineering background. Does this comes as a surprise ? Yes given the landing precision.
    Is this something annoying or difficult/costly to deal with? No: Introducing random variability in the parameters deal with it rather quickly (the point of impact for example is defined at x +- delta. Delta varying b/w a compliant minimum and extremum).
