It’s always the same sequence that is pictured. This time we have to see the engine installation and roll out as a supplementary bonus (notice the petal airbrake that are still on).
Given that the fuselage was left idle on the production line for quite a considerable laps of time (in the film it’s then interrupted by a two day sequence with a lot more of activity around the bird and none in the background), we have the right to be concerned with conformity or problem with the quality of the design.
And I am still wondering how they plan to remove the wing on the field when they need to move a damaged airframe around. The Grip supposed ability to operate from dispersed airfield doesn’t match with this.
What’s wrong with you guys? You don’t even realize (complaisantly?):
– the offer from Boeing is significantly different from what the USN is actually procuring
– the total number of airframe is significantly different thanks to the longer lasting airframe of the F35
The most spectacular info that came from this deal is in fact the better notation for the SH, significantly in front of the Typhoon with better perfs where few would have agreed.
For 35 odd aircraft delivered between 2021 and 2027, $125 million could well be an accurate estimate. No USN orders will be around to depress the production costs.
So far, the USN did not buy the enhanced SH.

It is also mentioned that the 35 won on the ground of cost as the requirement call for a 30 year service life when the aircraft can fly 33% more longer thanks to an airframe built for 8000 flying hours instead of 6000 for the other contender. Hence the total cost of ownership drop as no extra airframe are needed. Airframe that were accounted for in the total cost.
Dassault would have certainly scored in the upper margin here…

How is that different from the times today? OK, Norway and Denmark have F-16s and Finns have F-18s, but other than that it’s all the same..
Of course, it’s the same. But 30 long years apart and with a huge increase in synergies thanks to new technologies. In my book, That makes for something noticeable. 😉

So nothing officially confirmed yet but it shouldn’t be a surprise to most.
This is really interesting. We are witnessing the begining of an arc of coherent defense system from UK up north to Finland, perhaps. That would make for a heck of a defensive barrier for Nato and non-Nato. Same plane, integrated logistics, agile systems (no lags in sensor refresh or weapons dev) and cohesive, robust sensing of the airspace.
The only problem I foresee are the airshows… F35 every days on the menu will rebut even the utmost fans.

The answer is obvious: FVL, with a product derived from this competition. Tilt rotor seems the obvious tech technology but a countra rotating rotor might proves more adaptable with existing infrastructures.
Anyhow, trading speed and Composite manufacturing for a lower capital immobilized in ownership of a large fleet (less number since lower transit time and also lower maintenance cost thanks to a downsizing in manpower) could be the right direction for offshore operations.

On subject of missile maneuverability. Based on the book I make myself a small spreadsheet for calculating the body buildup force for the missile. The variables and AOA for the missile are based on AMRAAM simulation result did by someone else.

Seriously, thanks for sharing, it’s a cool video even if a tad too much edited (shaky effect).
Speed is also of importance. Dropping a ballistic weapon at 300 kt, 600 kt or 900 kt from same altitude makes a big difference.
Small diameter has its importance here. It makes for a better aerodynamics and thanks to the improved explosive composition, similar effect at half the weight (roughly).
And like you say, kinetic at launch plays a role not to mention the superior range reachable or the doubled number of targets that can be engaged at equal the load. All this is theory but reflects the present trend (see Spear).
