I am sorry but the airframe is symmetrical regarding a vertical plan encompassing its main axis meaning that it is at least neutral in ‘lateral’ (yaw) and roll. It can be divergent of course but not “unstable”.

Notice that I have long ago supposed that the -Fa* was made able to fly sideway efficiently (frontal stealth).

Buying modernized airframe for the Guard that will have to fly them for at least one or two decades is perfectly logical today.
The Reserve/Guard scheme was to fly [soon to be retired] retired airframe at a low tempo to keep airmen proficient and boost airpower at a lower cost.
When an airframe flies front line for 4 decades and more, the sheme is not sustainable anymore. You can’t ask the ANG to assume their missions (homeland / deployment) for the next 30y (the time F-35 and maintainers will be available in masse) without reverting their budget to that of the USAF…
Buying whatever will fulfill the mission without impairing the acquisition variable is perfectly logical.

It’s just like keeping an old car in service past the reasonable, eating your budget, availability and mission completion ratio (down time, mental breakdown and all the induced indirect cost (time lost, nerves, girls turning their back to your wreck…).

The only logical alternative would be to mass produce upgraded F-16s to quickly retire all F-15. What it means is that if India does not want the Texas line, St Louis might. :rolleyes:

regarding the Hawk, they would do better fitting an IRST in the nose tip in the way the Legion pod does. And then, instead of a Radar, add good datalinks (Aesa).

They are working for get F-35B for Armada and in cooperation with Air force F-35 A.

But F-35B is out of question. It will come 12-15 units for Navy. It does not matter if finally dont come F-35 A for air force. Very clear what he told.

On this year will come new contract for 20-30 EF´s for to replace most old F-18 (after elections surely) because are most fast delivery than F-35, and later (2025-2030) it is possible will come some contract for F-35A for to replace rest of the F-18´s. But F-35 B (12-15 units) for navy will come without any doubt.

New european fighter will come around 2035 for to replace most old EF´s in spanish air force.

Why not create a joint air force / navy unit, flying core strategic missions on Spanish carrier (med and shore) and find some place on other Navies flatops to go joint (Italy, UK, USMC, Asia)? It’s not like a Bee (F35B) couldn’t cover all the Spanish peninsula. Increasing the number of Bee to match a well balanced ratio of the level needed by the Airforce will magically creates some room for savings…

Shouldn’t we forget the uncertainty around the Turkish 35s. Those are 100 airframe that won’t be left corroding on their assembly jigs. Someone will have to buy back them.

F-15 is also old MD side of Boeing. Sustaining their R&D (the “X” is there for a new version) will help them sustaining their capacities.
