As we are in a modern fighter forum here is a technical point we can discuss concerning this joke :
Given the aspect angle of the Boeing, shouldn’t the sukhoi bank to the right in order to maintain its interception trajectory and its target in its sight while shooting ?
Shouldn’t the missile adopt a trajectory consistent with some kind of proportional guidance instead of flying in a perfect straight line ?
Point1:
It depends of the pilot intention of course but at this stage you might want to take a lag pursuit trajectory since there is very little chance that the 777 could have outrun the Mig(Su)2(7)9. Moreover, if you intend to shot down an airliner in radio silence (no tracks were ever known to have been recorded), you certainly don’t want to show yourself and your marking to the passengers.
Point2
It depends of the missile software but given the range, the speed of the target that kind of missile would have maximized its chance of intercepting the target by accelerating straight before reducing the angle. If you browse Youtube looking for AIM4 Falcon launches toward RPV (Firebee), you’d found some corresponding video.
Remarks;
The agenda corresponds to a very tense G20 summit. Everybody would try to put pressure on other to relieve their own situation. We ardy had the Sat photo leaked from the CIA.
Hypo1: We now have a more public friendly description of the events. A dramatic shot to raise attention of all.
