NATO could not openly enter the war, as old colonial territory is excluded in the protocol, but UK was supported covertly by both US & France.

In my view, and to keep this thread on the subject, the mission devoted to the ArAF are more complex than just Zulu alerts. And even there, a Kfir is the worst platform I can see for the mission.

Yes, good point. Argentina would have learned from the Falklands War when France gave Britain info on defeating Exocet and halted deliveries. This makes a pure Chinese solution FC-1 as opposed to JF-17 a tempting prospect I guess. US/UK pressure will not be as big an issue. It will not give you the most capable plane on the market, but it means your pilots will not worry about having their radars and missiles compromised.

What you say is so true that Ar went first to a Fr platform upgraded with Fr electronics.

This is not the cold war anymore. Fr like the UK won’t bother to care that much after a colonial type of war raised by one or the other. And it’s all about deterrence.

Ok, let’s say that we are at the middle age in Eu and your are in charge of the defense of a castel.

You know that your enmy own only swords and arrows. So your recommendation to your lord is to build a wooden gate all around the castel and recruits a couple of dozen of archers as a cheap and efficient way of protection.

Then an envoy tells you that your enmy hve signed some defence agreement with its neighbor that master the black powder. Your next preoccupation is then to alter the building work of the wooden gate, force your engineers to build a strong wall using mortar, sand and stones and raise an army of hundred of soldier (archers, spear handlers and knights to stray among the artillery positions).

Then an other envoy comes and told you that your enmy have managed to recruits some sorts of fanatics trained to be catapulted above castle’s walls. After much discussion with your commending officer, planners and engineer, you decide that you ned to raise a strong rapid reaction force able to quickly repel them anywhere where they had been catapulted.

So… Let’s look back at the above digression… Reasonably, only a wooden gate and a dozen of armed men would do the trick . But then looking closely at how events can unfold, it’s easy to see that you need the stone wall all around the castle, the hundreds men army and the special forces…

I am sorry but in the real world your enemy would never let you at rest. Thinking forward minded staffs and technology are the things a peaceful nation must have as a very basis. Conventions, lazy thinkers are among what they can’t afford.

So, you are right, angry Russians raining down on NATO assets are not what a reasonable man can expect (but is there any angry Russian left as any Dr Folamour in the US?). But then there is the world…

All the above is really simplistic and does not reflect really my own opinion. Those line are just a digression around the concept of frwd thinking in term a def cap.
