The main prob is not in the separation IMOHO but more in the linkage device that hve to be made rigid, reliable and light. Do not forget that an a2a missile hve to be carried by a plane and spend most of its operational life (during a conflict) hanged bellow a hard maneuvering plane with all the vibration induced by the flight.
The challenge of such a design hve always been gruesome especially regarding the weight consideration. That nowadays, with all the new tech material and it’s legacy experience from the GenDyn AIM154 story, LM seems confident enough to push it frwd is understandable. Thus 16% of all low observable platforms be they research or production have originated in Europe. Given these figures it is hard to be able to claim a European lack of interest or knowledge as your original post attempted to.

Interesting BiO but they might be some technical problem that prevents the usage of a flying wing concept on an aircraft carrier. A flying wing depends on its control overall surfaces to remain controllable regarding yaw and pitch. The larger the wing, the easier it is.
Late carrier testing MIGHT hve finger pointed this fact to the USN: the tech is not mature enough to safely land a small span flying wing on a carrier deck in adverse winds conditions. Those are only suppositions obviously. But if there is some truth in it, the logical choice would be to go for a more classical winged body, hence reducing the LO requirement that would hve no meaning with such config (winged body needs more RAM to complement their less LO shapes hence are heavier or carry less payload/range for a similar weight).

That just seems overly simplistic. The shock cone is 3D, so simply using side profile isn’t going to cut it. Also, despite the F-16’s sharper nose, its max speed is lower than the F-15’s.
yes but let’s hve a look to two orthogonal sections of a plane, one hve the full wingspan in it, the other hve the fuselage profile.
What would be the limiting size factor that will prevent such section to fit inside a mach cone first?
Obviously the one containing the wing span (this unless the wing is highly swept and the fuselage so short that it needs a very tall vertical tail, this aggravated by a AoA capability requirement – this is where a double tail can help).
This is why, reasoning within the plan of the wing is a valid assumption.
