IMOHO the editor lost one thing on the way: the Boeing T-X was the only plane to strictly adhere and fulfill all the wining criteria (a plane build strictly as a trainer able to compete efficiently for the best performances parameters).
Seriously…
Dassault describes its Rafale as being an “omnirole” fighter, a tag that it says denotes the type’s ability to perform multiple mission types simultaneously. This differs from the widely adopted multi-role description used by its rivals largely as a result of the aircraft’s ability to provide its pilot with data fused from onboard sensors, it says. These range from its Thales RBE2 fire-control radar, Spectra electronic warfare suite and passive front sector optronics equipment to the seekers on its MBDA Mica air-to-air missiles.
“The intention from the beginning was to develop a joint and omnirole Rafale,” says Stéphane Reb, programme manager for France’s DGA defence procurement agency.
“It was intended to perform air-to-air missions, deterrence, air-to-ground and reconnaissance,” adds Reb.
A Jabo with a nuke and a screen compiling tactical info…
@Hallow: Sure, that would be interesting to have a relevant value in mind. Thanks.
I guess that Israel will buy some then.
So sad France didn’t keep the LHD
Regarding the launch of MICA NG dev stated for service entry in 2025:
——————————MBDA had to put their hands in the pocket for the launch of MICA NG. Because the ministry wants the industry to pay their share to weapons programs when those are deemed exportable during the definition of the program. “It is not normal that the state does not benefit from more advantageous prices, when the export hypotheses become a reality, explained Florence Parly last July. This must change, and we will inaugurate this new approach with the launch of the MICA NG program at the end of this month of July “. Clearly, the Ministry of the Armed Forces now wants a “state benefit” in “a logic of royalty” as part of its support to the defense industry. MICA missiles have been exported to 14 countries around the world
Anyone has the number for the “share” invested by MBDA?

New IR matrix, AESA, longer range, dual boost.
…but this is good.
France Qualifies Rafale’s F3-R Standard with AESA Radar and Meteor Missile
*Omnirole=The Rafale has the ability to perform all combat air missions during a single flight.
Like most modern fighters – ie Teja, Typhoon, F-16, most F-15, F-22, J10, J20, F-35 or even F-8 or F-4…
It is also dubious that without continuous technological investment and operational refinement you would skip a generation without loosing some feather*. French commentators have been expletive about India attempts to regain their aerospace know-how at once with the Teja project. Where are those critics today?
*and not the least one: Stealth, this new paradigm!
And now bracing for another two pages drafted partnership…
I appreciate discussing/exchanging point of views but sometimes it is just too caricatural “80’s technology” “limited abilities”…This is just trolling. I don’t have enough time
I have to admit my post was not even convincing myself… Good you took some restraint sparing yourself some extra time.
However, the prospects of export for a 6th gen fighter produced in limited quantities and coming from countries that haven’t done anything branded 5th gen are… null. If you want to sale a product, you have to meet a market.
The problem in this FCAS story is that many think they are doing their jobs just applying old recipes. The first thing to do for the Franco-German duo would be to ensure the low cost of their future production and that starts with having a competitive product at first,
Also, none of the errors involved LM accounting practices but were found in DoD submitted doc. And Dutch is quite difficult to say the least.
Les erreurs se situent principalement dans les calculs effectués par le Pentagone et non dans les factures de Lockheed Martin.

The errors are mainly in the Pentagon calculations and not in Lockheed Martin’s bills.
Europe’s next-gen fighter jet is stuck in the bickering phase
As La Tribune suggested in an article about Germany’s alleged “filouteries” – skullduggery – in defense cooperation matters with France, perhaps a session of couples therapy might be in order.
This is exactly what was already the NEURON program, as I wrote it years ago: “the most expensive group therapy yet to be known”
French MoD should claim for medicare…
IMOHO It’s a simple doublet of reversed ram air valves (one open when the other closes) 😉
The interesting aspect for the fana is that you can visualize when local airstream reaches near 90deg values.
Notice that the smoke tube has also a frwd outlet:
