Higher wing loading means less trim drag* hence higher speed for a given power. This was the great debate in WWII fighter design and ppl like Seversky have shown to the world the benefits of it (less drag, higher speed, higher alt, better kill ratio).

At the jet age, speed and power remained mostly a winning combination once tempered to face the threat (taking a shortcut to not restart an everlasting off-topic discussion 😉 ).

*turbulence lift perturbation is a function of lift and weight.

There is no things like better. The fact that some lazy managers had in mind that the structure of European defense has tethered their customer to their organizations doesn’t make cooperation with one nation better than an other one. I have been advocating the present state of the UK situation for long and will still insist that this is not a matter of nation (or people). It’s a mix of compatible military needs (obviously) but also political and cultural situation that turns a potential cooperation beneficial for all the parties involved. In Other words, it’s a windows of potentiality that need to be used on time and in a timely fashion.

All those talks of with who to work whith could worth nothing if no decision is taken on time.

A a side not, IMOHO, Japan is must to go for UK.

Loans at a good Rate might look attractives when you need to keep some hard currencies. It’s also a political bargain in times of crisis (lender will favorably see no future but with you in power).

Just to make sure we all understand the Same thing, the 35 do fly without using its stealth attributes when it choose to do so using reflectors that allow any traffic controller to follow their courses just like any other plane. When this happens, the plane might use its transponder to navigate inside regulated airspace following proper regulation.

The news would have been one if it was all about a remote actionning of the device by a third party without anyone being able to prevent/counter it.

That ‘s not what is sketched in recent history. As already said, the level of commitment from many succeeding administration on this subject is remarkable. Ok, we had some fun with the carrier being jump jet then It changed for a while etc… But look at it, this thing is the (end) result of many years of public funding (r&d, test, test facilities…). And it’s a system, not simply an airframe.

It goes both way sadly. BJ sales were highly enhanced by Dassault military products. Something on which I have put the emphasized a long tome ago here.
Regarding CaD systems, Dassault-Systems is a separate entities from Dassault-Aviation and its top seller is in the verge of loosing a great share of the market (Solidworks native 3d library was bought by Siemens (nx) some years ago halting most of the interesting growth of it at Dassault Systems).
So, the situation is way off what it was during the glory days

It then come down to politics and nationalistic pride: would Italia let their most sensitives primes participate in a project without Italia having a front row seat?
Perhaps that the UK would have to get some inspiration from the 35 program and open foreign participation on a similar model (pay to get in/ pay to stay)? Everybody will see how it was good for the UK industry and might feel inspired by this success story?

Italia host some of the best sub in the industry. It has also a population and PIB at the level of UK.

It would be a poor choice to discard them just for the look of it.

Is it important? I mean they are going to put young flesh in it to go through a hail of lead and fire like the world has never seen… Thanks God that they source excellence were it stands.
Think Hispano and Browning. Would you have like it if Supermarine stuck to the 0.303?
