Portraying. This is exactly the reproach I have to this way of managing a mil program and your way of characterizing my opinion.
Where are the services RFI, RFPs?
Where is the competition that nurture new aggressive way to search for innovations, performance and ensure efficiency?
Where is the epicenter of decision now?
I will tell you, At the age of the much vaunted IA, there is not much more in program management here than what leads the misoginist view on Women: blondes are idiots and red hair whores (replace in context with your own choice of national industry)…
Great debates inbound. Colorful pictorial future for our program elites, let the circus and the money burning start over (again)!
because that’s absolutely the path the EU industry has shown us in the past 20y: from the A400, Tiger, NH90 to the Rafale, everything has been cheaper and inherited from being late superior capabilities not even fielded 20 years before… Hoo-Ha
Obviously, let’s compete for the Fun of it… M’enfin!
Meanwhile, in another “good European” country not far far away…
Under a deal struck with the Italian government, the remaining 29 Dutch [F-35] will all be assembled at Cameri, which is owned by the Italian government and operated by Italian state-controled defense firm Leonardo in partnership with Lockheed Martin.

IAI ELTA Systems Awarded $150M Contract for National SIGINT & EW for a European Customer
IAI ELTA Systems was recently awarded a prestigious contract for the modernization and upgrade of a national level ground based SIGINT and EW system for a European customer.
humm, That one for sure will have short stubby wings 🙂
Cheaper that way (manned airframe) 😉
L’argument géographique ne compte pas. Ainsi, le fait d'”être un bon Européen” ne suffit pas”.

The geographical alibi does not count. Thus, “being a good European” is not enough.

I wonder how an aerospace magazine can publish such report containing NOT a single consistency. You’ll appreciate also the placarding of Experts as an attempt to raise the level.
This UAV (if real and anything close to something intended to fly) is a mockup that depict an intensive re-use of design choices fielded with the J-20 (logic). From the aft strapped delta wing with large forward positioned canards, the profile of the DSI (but below the aircraft), massive V-tails, everything seems to have been re-used. Hence it would have sounded more professional to appreciate this thing as having similar perfs and mission profiles.
Not a 6th Gen aircraft.
It’s not the same plane, period.
There is plenty to detail that will bring anyone to the right conclusion. See cockpit windows profile, wiper size or wing root section (this one is for a slower plane, probably turboprop) for example.
If you have to go derelict why not get some upgraded mig21 with Slovakian/Indian support?
It’s not like a mission over Iran was not in the mind of the IDF’s planners from the inception of the Adir program 😉
It would be out of topic to discuss this here. Sorry Sintra.
The most important aspect of this story is that earlier rumors seems to have been true. Remember that we reported this here as soon as the Jerusalem post released the story. 😉
If we put that in context with the canceled Iran deal, we have here a state of affair (I am completely discarding all the geo-political aspect not to flame this thread) where a tactical weapon system completely overturned a strategic situation* (Iran is now expected to put its money on better IADS and fighters – you don’t restart a nuclear program with your major opponents freely skytyping over your head Tu veux ou tu veux pas?).
* remember the new buzz word: tactical deterrence?
I don’t see trade discussions on minor aspect of the massive flows of products correlated with defense purchase.
All DSI are not statics inlets. Porous walls are all about dynamics adaptation to inflow speed.
F-35 has a porous wall
J-20: it seems so
In other words, guessing max sustainable speed for a stealth aircraft is harder looking at their inlets than considering other factor like coating.
I would not be surprised to learn that next 35 build has a Mach 2 max speed or that it can sustain an higher Mach number than the 1.6. 😉
Yes, the fuselage (out if it seer beauty) puts into practice NASA’s Natural laminar flows principles to the letter… But shaped around the need of a roomy business jet 😉
