    Don’t believe fake news.

USG spent $ billions to fly and maintain MiG-23, MiG-27, MiG-21 and SU-27 under Constant Peg and other programs. Why spend that much money if they were failures?

    15000 sorties generated.

The No. 3 jet made momentary contact with the underside of No. 1′s outer wing during the Diamond 360 maneuver, a Navy spokeswoman told the News Journal.

Only a minimal scratch was found, according to the News Journal.

What are we looking at for 3rd stream, 250kg?
It’s marginal. Think also that the reduced core section will generate more weight savings than the increase brings in. We might end with an even result 😉

You’d have to be seriously drunk to even want to fly a Tuc inside triple digit SAM range in anger.

We are looking at a safe margin of +- 9t of ordinance to implement any modification…

Also, third stream will generate power that could be used on cooling (beyond their inherent participation to insuling the hot section) leaving the extra amount of fuel that has to be kept for that to a bare minimum. This will open op birds to some weight savings, opening room for the new propulsion system.

How this should not have been done prior to the death of a crew is mind boggling. 😡

The idea that we have become too reliant on automation and have let our basic piloting skills atrophy isn’t new. Every few years there is a noteworthy crash, some hand-wringing and a call for pilots to take a little more stick time. This has been around for almost as long as I have been flying. But I don’t think more stick time will answer the problem. What we need is better stick time, hand-flying the airplane when it is safe to do so and then do so in a way that helps us improve.

Excellent (and positively recreative) read from J. Albright on Aviation Week :

Sorry if It has been naive choice from me (came from FB) or discussed before but it has spoilers deployed. And you can turn without maintaining your altitude to keep G at bay.

Anyone has heard any late development about this:

the only thing I can see via WWW is the last month announcement about the Italian police raid. I would have naively thought that this would be a bonanza story for any journalist.

a unit of Airbus (AIR.PA), had warned that a component in the rotor control could malfunction and cause a crash. A spokesman for the German defence ministry was not available for comment.

A German pilot died and another was injured in a Eurocopter crash last month.

    Also

a titanium bolt of the Main Rotor Control may show unusual weakness and break during flights.
    […]
The same problem was also identified on the German NH90 and EC135 helicopters, but the material is not used in critical areas, meaning they will continue to operate for now.

Let’s say that we have initially a diameter of 1
Add 0.1 at each diametral extremities (the thickness of the added stream) and the new diameter become 1+ 2×0.1 😉
